There are more clouds over the ocean. The vast majority of rain is evaporated sea water.

@WintaTheAngle light still gets through though. If you doubled the density there might be no light for the ocean to absorb.

@GuyWithOpinions You would need clouds with the same density of volcanic ash to achieve that. Weeks of it.
