I'd open all faucets to full.
If there are places where the pipes are accessible start heating them there.
Light tapping may help crack some ice. Perhaps enough to get some water flowing.
Leave the faucets open until they run normal then use the dripping tactic from there on out.
Running the hot water every hour or two until it's coming out as hot as it can get. That will bring heat to the pipelines you can't get at and hopefully stop them from freezing again.

@aradia11 did you check with your homeowner's insurance to see if it will cover for a hotel/motel stay?

@aradia11 Okay, if that situation is okay for you. I could not live without hot water, for hand washing and showering. But, that is me. Enjoy your holiday.

Don’t run your washing machine either like I did! Now my kitchen and dining room are flooded! You can leave your cabinets open and put a space heater next to the pipes to thaw them out. I’m in Tennessee and been going through the same thing. I did leave mine dripping but my cold water still froze for a few hours, but it’s ok now.

@Mardrae Ahh cold weather dilemmas!! We moved from Phoenix 2 years ago and am not use to this! Grew upnin New England but that was 35 or better years ago.
Tried to run dishwasher it shut off wouldnt run...good safety thing I guess. Maybe it could have flooded too?
We get a new unit on the 30th then have to have it installed Fun times...
Hope your doing better up in Tennessee.
Down here in South Mississippi the weather in the 20s etc is very unusual!!

Open up cabinets to let heat in.

My parents had water pipes in their attic, and they were always freezing, and did damage to the pipes and caused leaks. Eventually, when everything was fixed, they wrapped all the pipes in insulation and some of them were even wrapped in electric coils AND insulation. They had to install electric coils all around the edges of their roof to melt the ice dams, too.
They used to have to crawl up to the attic and heat the pipes with a blow dryer before they put in the permanent fix.

Before you try defrosting a frozen pipe, find you water shutoff valve and turn off the water.

hopefully there is enough room in the pipes with the faucets all open, to allow expansion of the pipes without cracking, remember the toilets could also be a problem. good luck. With global climate change, these events are occurring more often. there are pipe wraps to install, better do it after the stores reopen, to prepare for the next event.

Insulate the pipes
HikingMan · 51-55, M
I wouldn't wait too long. The longer it's frozen the more the ice will expand which is what will cause a rupture or break.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@aradia11 have the plumber help insulate them for the future.

You have no heat? Geez. Stay dressed warmly. You cannot take those temps. Be careful. Here it is minus 35. We are prepared. I wish I could help. No sun here either.
