Have you ever observed a near accident that made you cringe?

Saw two vehicles trying to beat a red light on the way to work. One was turning left, the other was attempting to make it through the intersection. Both of them just barely stopped in time.
I’ve witnessed a few actual accidents, but one weekend when the streets were fairly deserted, I was headed to the store and this older teenager was walking in the street. I don’t know why I bothered, but I said, "be careful, people drive crazy around here."
The kid flipped me off. I shrugged, kept going.

A driver came around the corner, hit the boy and kept going. I ran over to him, he insisted that he wasn’t hurt, that the car had just bumped him. I offered to call someone for him, he insisted that it wasn’t necessary, and no, he didn’t want the police called. I helped him up and he went into one of the stores—after thanking me for coming to see about him and apologizing for the hand gesture.
@bijouxbroussard Some lessons are harsh.
Many times. A few really got to me. I’ve lost people to car wrecks too. Loved ones.
@DarkHeaven Same.

Yep. A corvette late at night. Racing to make a light change, hit the brakes at what had to have been 90+ mph. Spun around in 2 times in the middle of a 6x6 major intersection until it hit one of the curbs and landed with a thud on the neutral part, between opposite lanes.

I fully expected the driver and companion to get out the car, fall on their knees, lift their hands towards heaven and thank God that they didn't go inverted, or hit one of the street lights, or another car. They instead stepped on the accelerator, kicking up the flower beds in the neutral ground and sped away at full throttle.

@Heartlander 😞i have a fast car wow silly little boy racer they are a menace and a danger too other road users
@Heartlander They may have been street racing. Where I am you'll hear it A LOT at night.

@latinbutterfly Yes, here too. Mostly motor cycles though. Too fast for even the police to pursue.

I was a pedestrian in a near-accident years ago that still makes me cringe.

I was crossing at a stop sign.
A car was coming toward the intersection, about 2 blocks away to my right
As I proceeded, the car accelerated. The driver was looking at his passenger and the two were laughing. The driver was not even looking in front of him!

He was coming right at me. I was already past the middle of the street, so I was directly in his path.
I ran to the opposite side.

He zipped right through the stop sign , still laughing with his friend, not ever knowing that a pedestrian was in a crosswalk right in front of his car, and not knowing he drove through a stop sign.
@DrWatson It's people like that who deserve to have their driver's license taken away.

{@latinladybug] 😞shocking really people are always in a hurry and it just takes one miscalculation through impetulence to put themselves and other in direct danger

Yes. Been in such a situation. Was driving around a corner when some toddler who couldn't have been older than 3 was standing by the street! If he was actually in the street, I'm not so sure I would have reacted in time to avoid hitting him. Ugh, that still makes me cringe to this day. Like, where the hell were his parents?! I get that kids wander off on their own and all, but holy shit! That close call was enough to traumatize me.
@Ducky That would make me angry because of the clearly incompetent parents.

Yes, and also experienced a few. That time a car beside me in the left lane started to come in the one l was in, and my only choice was to keep moving to the right until I was off the road and came within inches of slamming into a pole. That one was a bit scary.

Several years ago I was in a large parking lot about to turn and two cars narrowly avoided hitting each other by a few inches. Neither hit their brakes or honked or anything. That scared me. Two other incidents before the evening was over. Saw a man turn onto a street from an intersection and run up over the curb and back down on the street, and saw something else on the way home. I just wanted to get home and stay. It was a full moon that night and thought that might have had something to do with it. Three incidents on one day was too much for me, had me spooked.

no but my daughter saw a man on a motorcycle get hit and his leg flew through the air. unattached of course.

@akindheart When I was in high school me & my friends went for a walk on Main Street and coming back we saw a boy step in front of car and get thrown up into the air, he was wearing a red shirt. He got up and limped away like he was embarrassed.

I saw a guy on a bicycle get hit by a car. It was his fault, he was on the sidewalk and crossed the street just as the car turned. He managed to get across the street and the car went on before he collapsed on the sidewalk. I asked if he was okay and he said no. I asked if he wanted me to call an ambulance and he said no. I think he was homeless and couldn't afford it.

Waiting in a left-turn lane, several cars from the front. Someone in a hopped-up Chevy Nova tried to make a right turn and started bouncing from tire to tire, eventually smacking into the cars farther up in the left-turn lane line.

I guess that wasn't a near accident, though, just an accident.
Many times. Driving and death on the highway are non optional for Murka. They hate alternatives! They would bomb alternatives!
@Roundandroundwego Some situations are avoidable but some people clearly can't drive.
@latinbutterfly this amount of driving brings this amount of harm. It's like the poor people in East Palestine - so? You gaslight your greens and voted red and blue. This is the wages of that sin. Americans don't want less harm. Really. So this is the wages of sin.
deadgerbil · 22-25
Yeah in my neighborhood this car was driving down the street and this other one went to pull out and they avoided it with inches to spare

LLB, I told you that my Camry rides extraordinarily close to the ground. A Mexican guy told me it could be considered a low rider except it had all its doors!
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I almost got into one a few years ago, when an idiot made left turn on a red arrow when I was turning right 🤬.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I've seen cars being very close to colliding in to my car.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Yes. When my brakes went out.
