Fuel Prices

I have just been checking out news on my mobile phone . The US will be hurting as much as people in the UK . Its nearly the same price in the UK and US now so can understand the complaints guys . This bloody russian war is hurting everyone big time . The US is also short of baby formula which isnt good . That russian bastard whos name is not worth a mention needs put down and soon .
Whyme · 46-50, M
I dunno i dont see how russian war is affecting prices in canada or us as no russian oil was imported here anyway its an excuse and what russian cows made formula ? Now to be clear im not supporting russia i just dont see the reasoning
CestManan · 46-50, F
@GeniUs that's pretty much what it amounts to.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@GeniUs That's a component of it for sure, but I wouldn't say it's the only driver of these prices.
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
@Whyme No me neither the only people it should effect is europe as they used russian gas and oil . It is as you say profiteering as demand grows on arab states to supply more to counteract the oil and gas from Russia to europe . Instead of just producing more to keep the price down their profiteering from a spike in demand .

Gas and fuel are traded on a global basis. Neither the UK or USA imported much from Russia, but there is now a big deficit on the supply side and this is inflating prices for what is left. Pure and simple as that. Nothing to do with Joe Biden. Incidentally, much of the developing world is dependent upon imported grain from Ukraine and Russia. Later this year when the effects of a ruined harvest become apparent, people in sub-Sahara Africa who already spend 25-40% of their income on food are really going to start paying the price of this war.
Whyme · 46-50, M
@SunshineGirl it seems convenient for all leaders to just say its putins fault
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Whyme There are other factors behind price inflation (including, in the USA, the stimulus scheme overseen by the previous president), but war at any time and any place is likely to result in major economic shock. Putin has definitely been a very naughty boy 🤨

The sad part is that where I sit there are billions of barrels of oil but no way to get them to market. This has nothing to do with Russia. The oil and gas are available but the WEF and it puppets have curbed production to prevent AGW.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
Russia has little to no affect in U.S. prices. The current administration’s policies have caused our prices to rise every month since the 2020 election.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@JesseInTX By your very own reasoning, since you're not an oil executive you're in no position to know whether importing or producing is more feasible, lol. Lack of direct experience with something doesn't preclude you from understanding something.

As I said, oil corporates and west govts aren't charities, moved by magnanimity, as victims of oil industry incessant propaganda seem to believe.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Elessar you’re correct in one thing, I am not an oil and gas executive. However 3 of my longest and closest friends are and I’ve learned a great deal from them since they started out as grunts in the industry working on the rigs of west Texas and in the Gulf of Mexico, up to the positions they hold now.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@JesseInTX Exactly, and you're understanding their PoV in spite of not being the executive yourself, no different than how I can understand what's going in America right now in spite of having experienced it all in another country.

Well if the west didn't sanction Russia there wouldn't be such a problem and fuel wouldn't be so expensive.

This crisis does predate the events of this year though. It's a problem that the west could actually resolve on its own but it won't because it's stupid. Increased self-sufficiency should be what all countries aspire to.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Give over mate we did this less than 2 weeks ago; in some places in the US they were paying 4 dollars a gallon! Fuck me! In the UK it hasn't been that cheap this millennium!
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Five redeeming things about not being able to drive. 1) good for the fuel economy. 2) You don't have to worry about finding a parking spot. 3) You don't have to worry about car jacking. 4) It's good for the environment. and 5) Walking and running instead of driving are good exercise.
luv2fly352 · 70-79, M
@Sidewinder That's all well and good when you live in cities like Toronto or NYC where there's good public transportation, but in so many places a car is essential.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@luv2fly352 I see your point, but at the same time, I like to point out that I don't live in a big city, I live in a small town.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
What does it cost there?
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
@smileylovesgaming It is over 5 pound a gallon now
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Rhode57 how much is 5 pounds?
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Rhode57 Dude! Do you live in the UK and drive a vehicle?
https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/costs/fuel-prices/
£1.68 liter (it's in the link) = £7.63 Imp gallon = $9.61 US gallon = $8.00
Diesel £1.83 = £8.30 Imp gallon = $10.47 = Us gallon = $8.72
Anon066 · 31-35, M
Ah yes, you parrot that narrative lol.

Normies are fascinating.
