Have you ever seen a shipwreck?

What did you feel about it?
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I just wanted to swim to shore.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Fungirlmmm I hope the water was warm.
@Fungirlmmm I threw an inflatable giraffe in the water for you.

I once went with my wife to see a Dutch shipwreck called The Anne. It only appears at exceptionally low tides. We got there at seven am. All we saw was the outline of a ships hull, in decaying wood. Of course we ruined our trainers in the process.

Yes and as often as I am able I will seek them out. They are fascinating and eerie.
I snorkeled over a shipwreck in Bermuda but I don't remember which one it was.
The remains of the ship, the crystal clear deep water, the fish, the azure blue cloudless sky, and paying attention to not drifting too far from my rented boat- it was a memorable afternoon.
In the depths where wild tempests roam,
Have you beheld a ship's sad plight?
Its masts entwined by waves' fierce foam,
A ghostly silhouette in the night.

Have you ever seen a shipwrecked soul,
Lost amidst the ocean's cold embrace?
Where once there sailed a gallant whole,
Now lies a tale of sorrow, face to face.

The wreckage speaks of dreams now shattered,
Of voyages cut short by fate's cruel hand.
Yet amidst the ruin, hope isn't scattered,
For from the depths, resilience will stand.

So if you've witnessed a ship's demise,
Pause to ponder what it may impart.
For in the wreckage, where despair lies,
Resides the strength to mend a broken heart.

--Robert Frost, The Shipwreck (1951).

Two nights ago saw one at local supermarket when a customer totally lost it at a shop worker because no staffed checkouts were open at 7 pm.

I did scuba diving once where there was one at the bottom of the lake.
HeyaFeya · 18-21
@Osogris It was a small yacht boat. There was also a plane and a tank in the lake.

@HeyaFeya
Though tragic, the stories and history behind every newly discovered wreckage is overwhelming
HeyaFeya · 18-21
@Osogris I think they put the tank in the lake for the diving

Yes. I dove on several that had already been discovered. Finding an undiscovered wreck has always been a dream of mine.
Only decades after.

There was this stretch of rocky beach I used to walk along (in the US Notheast). Deeply embedded in the sand was an old wooden barge. What I can recall was part of one side and a big hunk of sloping deck were above the sand, highest part may have been 6 or 8 feet up; my guess is the bottom had mostly decomposed.

That long after the wreck, I only thought it was interesting to see how long the wood had lasted partly out of the water. So I guess what I felt was mild curiosity.

Japanese destroyer off the west coast of Australia getting back to 1943
Bibipat · F
Yes but never with ships
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Saw an old one from a distance. Don't recall much about it. Then there was my uncles 15 foot fishing boat 'the Shag Shit' that sank at its mooring during a storm. He'd painted it the colours of the aboriginal flag and was visible from the jetty.
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
Not a real shipwreck, but I've seen plenty of things in a working environment that could only be described as such.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
In Scotland.
In the moor (moor? Moat?? I’m not sure haha) outside an abandoned castle.

Trump presidency is enough of a shipwreck for one day.
@zonavar68 In the White House, chaos did sway,
Trump's presidency, a shipwreck's display.
With each passing day,
Enough to dismay,
It's a tale that won't soon go away!

Yes a few, they are strange when recent but come are eerie when old.

Where was it? I’ve been to Scotland three times.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Yes. We have a famous one on the Oregon coast.
Neman1622 · 41-45, M
No, but I've seen wrecked ships.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Saw a few boat wrecks
WolfGirlwh0r3 · 36-40, T
yes a few!
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Just in games
Fullmetal · 46-50, M
I dove a few
Musicman · 61-69, M
Never live as it was happening, but yes I have. I have even scuba dived in a couple of wrecks.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
I have seen many, mostly recently sunken ships as a function of my job. An American battle ship from the war of 1812 was recently discovered on the bottom of Lake Ontario in Canada and is perfectly preserved from the cold fresh water lake, but it's location has been withheld from the public to prevent scavengers from going near it.
MethDozer · M
A few. There's lots of them around the lake and river. Even seen a few tankers grounded and sinking before being repaired and destabilized.
