I like long distance trains when they aren't too crowded.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Louis54 Likewise. You can meet some interesting people in the club car, or sharing a table in the dining car.

I like walking.

Riding a bike still thrills me the same as when I was 6.

@Offthetop even when you ride up a slope

I walk everywhere. The last time I took a bus here in Denver I could have walked there a lot faster and saved a couple bucks.

Walking, you feel, see, are a part of the world, not separated from it.

Narrow boats. I love the relaxed pace, the team work to get from one place to another, walking and foraging, the history and folk stories, being in nature and cooking outside.

Walking or biking. I wish I lived in a more walkable area. I'm in Phoenix but it's more of a suburb, I'd have to walk for quite a while to get to any place of business that isn't a school.

Walking and public transportation is out of question where i live. Where i live far away from a city or town. Heck we just got high speed internet in like 2016 or something like that. Before that it was dial-up for years and we still don't have cellphone service and I'm okay with that.

To put it to you this way - to get to the city its a hour drive by car, by horse its two day ride

(The mathematics)

Assuming the car takes 1 hour at 55–60 mph, the distance is 55–60 miles.

A horse’s sustainable travel speed is roughly 4–5 mph (a steady walk/trot mix). So:

At 55 mph (55 miles): 55 ÷ 4.5 ≈ 12 hours
At 60 mph (60 miles): 60 ÷ 4.5 ≈ 13–14 hours
In practice, a horse needs rest breaks, so a realistic trip would take 12–15 hours of riding, or about 1–2 days if you factor in proper rest. A horse cannot sustain a constant speed like a car for that long
