Over the years I'd say a few dozen racoons, badgers, groundhogs, skunks and other small things. Never any damage all at night time

Yep. While going through Roswell NM at 2 AM., the biggest boxer bulldog I have ever seen suddenly appeared right in front of me. I didn't brake. My truck was tall enough that I thought going over it and not dipping the front end down was going to be better for the dog. However, the front differential gave it the smack down with a resounding thud as we passed over it. But it did get up and run home.
I was 16 with my brand-new driver’s license. I was driving my family to a church event when a beagle dog darted in front of my car.

The dog was dead and I was devastated. My Dad went with me to knock on the door of the nearest house. I couldn’t even talk, sobbing hysterically.

The man who opened the door was fairly baffled by an hysterical teenager and her Dad.

As it developed, this man bred beagles and had about two dozen in kennels.

He was tall and bent over to me and said, “Honey, it’s okay.”

It wasn’t okay to me. But there was no damage to the car. Just to the beagle and me.

Just clipped a coyote with the right edge of the truck's bumper between towns. I recall hearing a howling and seeing a flying furball to the right. Still feel bad about it tho.
when i was a kid my dad hit a bear...twice. the same bear. it was on the side of the road as we turned a corner and the bear lunged into the car and boom! we drove up a bit to check the damage and decided to turn around into town to report it to the rangers. that's when the bear ran across the highway and charged the car...my dad had no chance to stop and boom...we hit it again and that's when the radiator exploded....i'll never forget that.
@beermeplease Unreal, plus black bears don't get that large either

I had a deer run into the side of my car. Put a huge dent in it. Even left fur on the door. He got up and ran away but it almost gave me a heart attack.

@Cigarguy I almost hit a deer coming back late at night from the coast. I was alone in the car and I saw my life flash before me ( I was easily going 60). Luckily there was no car next to me so I could swerve out of it's way but ya never want to have that happen again.

@SlippingAway @Cigarguy

I hit a deer too many years ago now in Somerset England.

Decades back, i was driving home late at night through empty roads and a street dog suddenly appeared from the bush barking. Got hit by the front fender in a sickening thud and went silent. I didnt stop. There was no point stopping. Next day, saw blood clots on the fender ribs. Cannot forget or forgive myself till this date. 😔

Hit a deer at 65 mph in a PU truck. There was about $1600 in damage to front corner of truck. I have hit numerous small critters, (squirrels, rabbits and such) with no damage.

My husband ran over our neighbor’s dog once 🙁 we were just going home and she ran right in front of us across the road.. 🙁 she was only half grown
Hit a dog the day I got my driver’s license at 16. No damage because I was in my dad’s truck. Several years later I hit a deer and she totaled my car.

I hit a big black dog once because he jumped out in front of me and I couldn’t stop. I got out to check on him but he was already gone😟 The UPS driver behind me got out and taped my bumper back on the car.
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
Hit the mother of raccoons with mine when I was going about 55mph. Sucker was huge and grazed the corner of my bumper.

Could’ve been a lot worse, but my heart broke more for the critter than my car in the moment.
Deer. I was ok, but my Rav4 needed new front end
exexec · 70-79, C
Just little ones like squirrels and snakes. I try to miss them.
MissBarbara · 61-69
No, I haven't, and "raccoon" has two "c"s in it.

Atlotto · M
Yes, several...The only one that cased damage was a groundhog...It busted one of my tires.
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
@Atlotto did your day repeat the next day
Atlotto · M
@Monalisasmith86 LOL...Yes, over and over.
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
@Atlotto 😝
Must feel so guilty
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@mysteryespresso Yes it's his first accident in a car so it really shook him up. He also feels horrible for the racoon and for damaging my car.
@SlippingAway could have helped the poor animal
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
No I haven’t
had a deer total my car
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
dump truck, deer.

scratched the paint on bumper...
A seagull, once. No damage to the car, seagull didn't make it ;(
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
He’s obviously doing something bad why would a semi trailer want to tail him for
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@Monalisasmith86 I think they were both getting off the exit.
aif your son has a dashcam he can sue the trucker for damages if he can prove he was being aggressively tailgated.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@NativePortlander1970 I wish we did but I don't have a dashcam on the car. I really should invest in one.
@SlippingAway The off ramp may have cameras, try to see if there are.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@NativePortlander1970 That's a good idea I didn't think of that. It's a busy one so I bet there are cameras there.
A skunk, it took over a week to air out
