I first saved it from the junk yard in 1985, my senior year in highschool and been driving her almost everyday since. Few down times here and there for rebuilds and repairs.
But been pretty much on the road since then.
It's a 1971 AMC J20 truck it had 4 engine rebuilds, 2 engines replaced, transmission rebuilt and swapped out about just as much as engine I supossed. Redone the front and rear differentials a few times to. Shit just wears out.
Took body off the frame welded that up and stacked another frame on top to add strength.
Yes the truck is ugly and its manual transmission. Plus the org keys never worked in it. (Never had any) the cigarette lighter is the push button start.
Thinking. Calculating any amount of time after 2019 is really wonky, but think I got my current car around that time…maybe before that, maybe after. Honestly have no clue. But I’m gonna run her into the ground. I love her despite her occasional hiccups and get very attached to my cars so no upgrades in the foreseeable future.
August 2020 I bought it between the lockdowns. Feels like recently it was classed as new until it turned 3 years old. I think an upgrade will be between 5 and 8 years old for my car which I bought brand new at the time.
I have a 1999 ford crown vic had it sense 2005 its a patrol car bought it with 105000 miles on iy now had 260000 still runs a drives great have a 78 c20 truck had it over 20 years
I live in it and covid briefly made me dream of moving into a building, but now we're even poorer and work even more! Thanks Dems! Thanks GOP! Thanks smirk - Merica! The feeling is mutual.
@robertsnj My brother got it for me for my 18th birthday. He figured if I had a car I would be inclined to learn how to use it. It cost him $60 and a bag of weed. We got it serviced, paid registration. Even filled the tank. And then one morning it was gone. Never saw it again. 🤷♂️ I still haven't learnt to drive.
@robertsnj I'll grant you that it is much better here than the parts of the US that I have spent time in (North Carolina, Virginia). But how does public transport being better make a difference to the answers?
I bought mine in 2016. I bought it with 30k miles and it now has 66k miles. Drives like is brand new--great condition when I got it. I originally thought I would replace it in 2203 but between it running like it is brand new and still low milage, I guess I am keeping it for a while.
I’ll replace mine sometime soon. It’s a Lexus ES350 with about 295k on the clock. It’s due for new tires now, so that’ll be my last major expense. Incredible car. I’ll miss it for sure.
Over ten years.I'm keeping it until parts are no longer available or it completely rusts out.I may get a second car that is more practical to own alongside it.
@robertsnj I live in London, so use it for commuting to and from work and random days out at the weekend. It's relatively low mileage but is overdue a service. I can get a few more years out of it. It was new when I bought it.
I've had it for 3 years. Still works quite well. I got a deal on it because it had a totaled title, but was repaired to perfect working order. Insurance companies are funny about that stuff. With proper maintenance, I expect to get another 10 years out of it.
I got it used in 2020, a blue 2010 Dodge Journey SXT SUV with 112,xxx on the clock, I have put less than 2,500 on it as I only drive when I go out, which being a terminal cardiopulmonary patient on assisted oxygen 24/7, that it's mainly for clinic appointments and groceries/supplies.
