"Teenager falls to death from Florida amusement park ride." How safe are amusement rides? Are they 100% safe? Is the thrill worth the risk?

Well, ask yourself how often does a death happen against the volume of people who use the ride.
@guerrilla It's extremely rare. That's not going to matter to the teenager's parents though. A child is dead because of a thrill.

@RocktheHouse Do you drive? Are you going to stop driving because you may get in an accident and get killed?
@DCarey Point well taken.

I was at an amusement park a few years ago and was standing near a large rollercoaster. Suddenly I got hit in the head with a good sized, maybe 5/8” nut that stung like hell. A moment later a 5/8” bolt hit the pavement 3-4 feet away from me.

I did not get on that tide and haven’t got on a ride since.

@redredred you should have asked for someone else then as it's a big problem when a bolt falls out. the size of the bolt and its length and where it fell from would be clues as to where the bolt came from so they would know where to look on the ride for the missing bolt. guessing it was some teenage kid working for minimum wage and they had no idea about safety or how mechanisms work and did not care for the low pay they were getting. 🍫

@trackboy Or, let Darwin run it’s course. A couple of hundred thousand people die each day on earth, so…

@redredred a lawyer would have a field day finding out that the park workers don't care about nuts and bolts falling off the rides. that should be immediate stopping of the ride until they find out where the bolt came from and replaced it and checked the other bolts to make sure they are tight. 🍓

No, nothing is.

@RocktheHouse
Someone should have ensured the teenager was strapped in his seatbelt.
I suppose - starting with the teenager.

If you're gonna jump on every incompetent person - we're gonna be here a while - but I get ya.

@Budwick Have you ever seen a program called "Jackass", people seem to not be able to plan events more than 3 seconds into the future. An example would be some idiot getting his friend to sit on an airbag removed from a car while the bag is triggered bouncing the kid off the ceiling and breaking his neck. Playing with dangerous things that they know nothing about.

@Roadsterrider So true. I've seen only a few segments of the show. Too stupid to waste time on.

{@rockthehouse] it is a tragedy someone died and yes you are right they are 100% safe and checked but nothing but nothinng is infallible. but who was at fault the person messing about or the ride . only an investigation will will find answers to why this tragedy ever happened
"Teenager falls to death from Florida amusement park ride." .... Are they 100% safe?
Ummm... apparently not 😄

But seriously, I often wonder that there aren't more accidents reported. Some of those rides seem like they have huge potential to cause injury - even though they may be (?) structurally & mechanically safe.

Nothing in life is 100% safe. Choices in life depend at least partially on a risk/reward tradeoff, whether it's made consciously or not.

Me, I go on roller coasters.
trackboy · 22-25, M
usually rides like that have full restraint bars that come down over you and hold your shoulders and chest in so you can't go anywhere usually they go down to your lap so you cant slide out. the picture in the news showed him to be fat and it's possible the fat kept the bar from going down far enough and he slide out at the bottom of the bar and came out of his seat after sliding out from under the bar. 🍫
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Well some of those rides u have to be at a certain height.
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
I don't believe they are safe which is why I think upon my impending demise whenever I strap myself in.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@lumberjackslam they always tell about their safety procedures when someone dies. day ago a 14-year-old boy fell out of a drop ride and the park said the ride won't start if everyone is not anchored in place with those big padded metal bars that come down over your shoulders and across your chest and tummy down to your legs holding you in tightly. 🍓
