Funny enough, men that have a problem with gender-variant people do not realize that none of the genders, whether two or 20, would be interested in them anyways.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@CestManan I appreciate that response. And honestly, you are not the first transgender person to say something like that to me.

However, I've had discussions with your supposed "allies" who think such distinctions make me a bigot, and they demand I submit to this way of thinking or be ostracized. 🤷‍♂️
CestManan · 46-50, F
@SumKindaMunster There are some crusaders out there but here is another thing -
If we are trying to blend into society like a normal person, we are not doing ourselves any favors by drawing more attention to our gender status.

I am sure people figure me out pretty quick but I am not going to be like that one at Game Stop who made a total ass of herself.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@CestManan Fair. Am I am sorry if anyone harasses you for being who you are. I was bullied in my youth for being "different" and I cannot abide by anyone being bullied for just trying to be themselves.
helenS · 36-40, F

Because gender is a social construct.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@helenS Even biological sex is not as easy and obvious as it seems to those who believe there are only two.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Sharon @ninalanyon Thank you both. 🌷
You are both right of course. Please note that I didn't say biological sex is, by its very nature, either female or male; I just said people confuse it with gender.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@helenS I wasn't arguing :-) just adding my two penn'orth.

@Nanori lolz
Since gender is not a biological trait the number can be infinite.

In life ?
In law ?
In gender politics ?
In biology ?
In Psychology ?

Different answers depending on the context
I don't think Gender is biological so given it's socially constructed nature I tend to advocate it as being a Spectrum rather than a Binary.

Obviously I tend to limit that spectrum to the two very obvious polarities but I view almost everyone as belonginging somewhere in the middle of that spectrum.

most everyone is basically at least some of both masculine and feminine.

I don't particularly care. I just treat people as they ask to be treated.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
2 genders and then people who are afflicted with a delusion.
There are two genders. Intersex people are inbetween, they're not a 'seperate' gender of their own, they are a combo of both. Transgender people are definately what they say they are but biologically they are not and that's just the truth, it's not offensive and to pretend entirely that you were not born the other gender is bizarre and delusional hiding something about yourself is creating shame around it...why be ashamed that you are transgender?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@MushroomFaerie I think there are a lot of people who live "bizarre and delusional" (as you put it) lifestyles.

Shall we talk about it? If so, better get that block button ready.
@Sharon trans is when you have a female brain with a make body and vice versa. We all have different traits, we dont fit into stereotypes but a transgender literally doesnt identify with their gender at all. If they want to change their body it's none if my buisness but they can keep it as they are and still be what they are on the inside, fuck what other people think
@CestManan lol what's up with the whole block button comment? Are you looking for a fight? You got the wrong person for that dear, I couldnt give a fuck less
BanPlastic · 31-35, M
Two. Male and female :) Anything else is based on feelings and feelings don't really matter when it comes to an objective identification. Some people feel like cats, dogs or another race. It does not make them so :) Likewise, no matter how much some wish to blur the lines between males and females so they feel normal, the truth will remain unchanged for all time. What you are is in your DNA and this is fixed. No matter how much you mutilate your body or mess with your hormones, your DNA isn't going to change. As much as my life would be easier as a female, I accept reality and make the most of what I am :)
Sharon · F
@BanPlastic
I reject the differentiation between sex and gender.
So you're doing exactly what you criticize others for. 🤷‍♀️
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@BanPlastic except neurological studies of transwomen have showed they have brain wiring the same as cisgender women. Transwomen aren't fooling themselves, there are neurological and genetic reasons that people are trans.

I really recommend you research some studies on this and also look at the history of the definition of gender and sex. Furthermore I'd invite you to look at what trans people have to say for themselves.
BanPlastic · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 See, these are all just emotional appeals and you're making assumptions about how much I know. Even gay men have brain wiring like straight women. It doesn't mean those gay men are women. Anyway, I'm going to leave it here because I don't want to discuss the emotional aspect of this since that's going to get in the way of the facts. Just bear in mind that even the man who identifies as a dog genuinely feels like a dog and the White man who identifies as a Filipino lady genuinely feels that way too. To me, this only demonstrates that how we feel is not always a reliable indicator of the facts.

Take care :)
CestManan · 46-50, F
Now folks, this is just a joke, but if you really wanted to rock the boat when these discussions come up, you could say -
"There are only two genders - Male and Property".

@KiwiBird- There might be two male genders - regular men and then effeminate men with really small peckers.

Eh who knows

@WSEIII Hey, could I borrow that direct line to God? I've got some things to go over with him.
@WSEIII #LMAO
Graylight · 51-55, F
Wrong question. Gender identity is a personal quality. It's no one's business.

But if you're asking, there are more than 2 sexes, there are more than 2 genders.

(and before the screamers start: 1. Sex chormosomes and hormone levels may play a part in what eventually becomes a person's gender. https://www.nature.com/articles/nrn1494

2. There are 5 known sexes, bases on research dating back 30 years. https://www.joshuakennon.com/the-six-common-biological-sexes-in-humans/)

I recognise 2.

2 male and female..
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@Adstar ...so your saying three?
ididntknow · 51-55, M
If a body is found either after a short period after death, or from the distant past, it’s identified as either male or female, in the animal kingdom male or female, etc .
Sharon · F
@ididntknow The question is about gender, not sex.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That's sex. You are in the wrong discussion.

I googled your question 🌻
There are many different gender identities, including male, female, transgender, gender neutral, non-binary, agender, pangender, genderqueer, two-spirit, third gender, and all, none or a combination of these.
@helenS
Society imposes a label on them.
Not everywhere, at least not to the same degree everywhere.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@helenS That's how society works. 🤷‍♀️ The power of the majority. If you're an Asian person with name too complicated for Europeans to pronounce and move to European country you'll most likely adopt a new name just to avoid neverending explaining how to pronounce your real name. It sucks but that's just how it is. People you meet regularly will learn it but you just can't expect every single person you meet next to know how to pronounce it and then get offended if they can't. As long as there are no universally accepted rules around genders you shouldn't expect to receive a special treatment from others just because you feel about yourself some way but what you feel is not even defined in the semantics of the particular society and your outer appearance doesn't give anyone a clue that you are in fact different and expect to be treated differently than individuals who by semantics "fall into the same category".

I say, gender how we know it is bullshit in many aspects but I can recognize that's just how I might feel and just because I personally don't have other use of it than in grammar it doesn't mean everyone should adopt my views. As long as I'm in minority, there's not much I can do than reaching some compromise.
helenS · 36-40, F
@CrazyMusicLover Thank you – this was long and thoughtful, and it might take a while until I can reply to it. 🌼
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Gender is a spectrum, not binary.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@basilfawlty89 Spectrum makes it sound one dimensional. But it is multi-dimensional. I imagine that that is what you meant anyway. :-)
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@ninalanyon that is indeed what I meant. Kinda like how you get straight people, gay people, bisexual people and asexual people.
In my experience 2 .. but seems others have different experiences. I'm fine with that, but see no reason to turn the world upside down over it.
Sharon · F
Infinite - it's a continuum from completely masculine in all respects to completely feminine in all respects.

.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
We have 3. And paradoxically "a girl" is actually neutral gender here.
