@Mouseinthehouse That's going back a bit, isn't it?
Right since clearly none of you know how to do this properly....
1. Not so subtle semi-nudity. Page 3 of The Sun ran for 45 years !
2. Beer production. There are 1472 breweries and micro-breweries in the UK today !
3. The National Health Service. Free at the point of use and has been for 72 years
4. Safety. No country has as many health and safety regulations as Britain and few have legal requirement that they be inspected annually.
5. Police. Yes we have our occasional problem with the odd bad egg in a uniform. And the charge of 'institutionalized racism' rears it's ugly head every so often. But generally speaking the good old British 'Bobby' doesn't go around shooting 'perps' because they're scared to death.
6. Food. It's not all jellied eels; Pie and mash; Lancashire Hotpot and fish and chips.
Food varies greatly all over and isn't restricted to meat and two veg. anymore.
7.Football. (That's the game with a round ball. Kicked up and down the park ? Goal at each end ??) Watched by half the planet on a weekly basis. (pity it's so bloody expensive most folk can't afford to go and watch anymore !)
8. Royal Family. History shows that English royalty has had some incredible figureheads throughout it's 1093 year history.
Some of it dividing a nation and even causing the odd military skirmish here and there.
But it endures to this day and is much revered by many all over the world.
Despite the infamy of many a politician or government of the day, the royal family has endured it all.
9. Geography. Flat plains; woodland; coastal regions; built up cities; small Hamlets; Mountains; national parks with miles of green space all accessible to the general public.
10. Freedom to roam. You might get stopped on the odd occasion if you're found loitering. But generally speaking you can come and go at any hour of the day or night, go for a walk or a drive and can do so without fear of arrest.

@Picklebobble2 I remember a conversation with a friend of mine about guitarists. He lit slash as his favourite American guitarist.... Ermmmm Saul Hudson as he is monikered on his passport has always travelled on... A UK passport.
He then offered Peter Frampton... Born in Bromley 😂😂😂

Left Handed compliments.
At least that's what we call them. In England I don't believe that there is a name for it. It's too deeply embedded in the culture.
But the English are the best in the world at giving left handed compliments.
There's no contest

To quote de Gaulle: "Without having experienced it oneself, it is difficult to imagine with what skill, with what a variety of procedures, with what insistence, by turns gracious, pressing and threatening, the British are capable of deploying their resources to obtain satisfaction."

Bureaucratic Red Tape
Hell they make movies about it
Hell they make movies about it
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@HoraceGreenley "Red Tape" is actually a British invention, as the public service in London used to send instructions by sea to the colonial government in India bound in a red tape ribbon.😷

@SW-User Clash were great :)

SW-User
@Nimbus White Riot is what did it for me - I heard that at a party and was like "What is that?" I was already playing guitar in a band, within weeks we were "punk" and writing new stuff and learning anything we could from others like Peaches, New Rose etc.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Nimbus The Clash did one good song. That's it. One good song.
[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN1WwnEDWAM]
Even that deviates from the stereotypical punk sound and shows some semblance of rock. "White Riot" is about as pleasant as sticking one's head in a cement mixer.
