@SW-User If that garbage is any kind of "rock" then I'm Elvis Presley.

@NankerPhelge I'd have thought you'd have been the punk generation like myself 76,77 and all that.

Whilst for me it was a passing interest soon going back to more classic hard and progressive rock etc I still believe it had a subsequently huge impact on all sorts of music like the new heavy metal acts that followed Inc GnR obviously etc.

@SW-User I reacted conservatively towards punk when I was 15, so I'm not going to like it now at 58, am I? The new heavy metal acts (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, etc) would have come along just the same, they didn't need punk to help them. Don't assume people like punk just because of their age. BUT, the reason I made that comment in the first place was because you called it "punk rock". You should never use the words "punk" and "rock" in the same sentence.

@NankerPhelge Well it just a word and having been there in 76/77 I always consider punk rock part of the rock legacy.
At that time the band I was in was briefly punk, then mutated through different line ups to a prog rock outfit. In the early 80s we supported bands like Samson (with Bruce Bruce) and Diamond Head. I know those bands had punk influences, given our keyboard player went on to be in Diamond Head there's a direct punk rock link there.

@SW-User He went to Diamond Head because they were a better class of band. He realised what a load of shite punk really was and quit while the going was good.

@SW-User Clash were great :)

@Nimbus White Riot is what did it for me - I heard that at a party and was like "What is that?" I was already playing guitar in a band, within weeks we were "punk" and writing new stuff and learning anything we could from others like Peaches, New Rose etc.

@Nimbus The Clash did one good song. That's it. One good song.

Even that deviates from the stereotypical punk sound and shows some semblance of rock. "White Riot" is about as pleasant as sticking one's head in a cement mixer.
