In your bosses defense, he probably had to "coach" you just in case his boss wanted to know what corrective action was taken.
There is a benefit though - Long after any boss has forgotten, this will still be a funny story to tell :)
You are right though, f any of us owned the damned company, we would NOT be wasting time on the phone talking to the daily Karens.

and that was my point. I didn't go into details. she was RUDE and snobbish. normally I laugh it off, mute my phone and giggle while they rant, proceed with protocol and that's that. I already know; I was just having one of those days. I didn't get in that much trouble because I used professional sarcasm with a hint of a b.s. smile. and you could hear it in my time. been a CSR for years, I know the game.

@Jeremi I think people tend to forget that the representative on the phone is not even responsible for whatever difficulties the customer is facing. My sister was a CSR for a travel company and one time one of the others picked up a call on hold and the customer said, do you know how long I've been on hold? The CSR said let's see how long you're on hold this time and just hung up on him. I thought it was funny
You need to work on that customer service tone (*writes scathing review*)

I remember a person I knew but didn't know I was working there, call to get her medical records transferred from the Doctors surgery to where she was. I told her she needed to put her left hand on her stomach and do circle motions while patting her head with her Right...
Another time an old School teacher rang to affirm what he needed to do for his Blood, Urine and Faecal tests. I told him to just bring in a pair of his underwear... I almost got fired for that one.

Lol. I used to hate when they would say, "I will have your job." I was a manager and on more than one occasion I told the person I would be glad to send them an application.

@Jeremi Another technique is when someone is talking louder and louder allow your voice to get softer. It forces them to get calmer to hear you

that's basic 101. I usually mute, let them get everything out, come back with this passionate somber voice like I'm offering a tissue. "you feel better now? awww, poor thing."

You were given a warning for that? What's wrong with your company?
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Yeah... when I put my uniform on... it is now my company. I take responsibility because I’m the face... and it’s my paycheck on the line. I get what you’re saying, and it’s hard to bite your tongue sometimes, but I’ve learned to not take it personally.

90% of the time I don't. I'm just doing a job. and I really don't mind - I understand. been in their shoes. but there's that 5% of 10% of the time where you're pushed to your limit and take up for yourself.
