My husband gives me £100 a week housekeeping for food etc. He pays the utility bills etc
Nimbus · M
@MrsPeterEvans So that is close to the $1000 ?
PoetryNEmotion · F
Came back. Could eliminate cable. Saves $140 per month. Spend minimal on groceries. Don' t own a vehicle. Saves on insurance, gas, etc. No shopping for clothes and non- essentials. Just basic property rental. Hydro. Water is free. Cell is $79 per month. Live like a spartan. It would be severe but doable.

@Nimbus It is far easier to get used to less now before retirement than to be taken by surprise. When I spend carefully, treats are more appreciated.
Nimbus · M
@PoetryNEmotion I hope you have a good retirement income to fall back on 👍️
PoetryNEmotion · F
@Nimbus I wish...
4meAndyou · F
It can be done...but it's very difficult.
For a while, I was not able to earn much more than that. I was working with Alzheimer's and dementia patients, and the problem with that is that these conditions are fatal. My clients kept dying. So instead of a regular income, I had to deal with constant cuts while waiting for new clients.
I had to rent a room for a while, in the worst imaginable conditions. But I did it.

@Nimbus Eventually I applied for another job with a regular paycheck in the same amount every week. My job, working with Alzheimer's and dementia patients, was a form of learning...and expiation, really. I did not understand dementia even a little bit when my mother was in process of dying from it.

SW-User
Live, yes. Have working phone or internet service, insurance & fuel for my car, or any extras including medical coverage while I live? No.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Good point.
saragoodtimes · F
couldn't live on that in a week
TexChik · F
@saragoodtimes Thats about a day maybe around my family ... 🤷🏻♀️
saragoodtimes · F
@TexChik maybe until lunchtime for Alan
FreeSpirit1 · F
I could if I drastically changed my life.
Nimbus · M
@FreeSpirit1 Yes, it would require that.

SW-User
technically, yes. everything's paid for, and all i need is the basics.

SW-User
@Justenjoyit workin' on it! ;)
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
@SW-User I hope so😉😀
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Nice 👍️
bowman81 · M
Yes, if I had too.....no debt, no rent, taxes, utilities, and food. I could, but would have to cut out non essentials. I wouldn't like it much.
Thebestof1995 · 26-30, F
I could now that I moved. It’s not as tough to make it here.
Nimbus · M
@Thebestof1995 Good move!
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Yeah, as long as the river doesn't flood and wash away my van!
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Where? In the Amazon rain forest?
Nimbus · M
@Keepitsimple 😄
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F

Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Barely covers beer bill.
summersong · F
Not with two kids where I live.
Nimbus · M
@summersong Understandable.
Synyster · 51-55, M
In Canada ... No way. I need minimum of $6000 @ month net.
Platinum · M
I could, but I don't want to....you could do it if you never socialized much, if you were not paying much out monthly and a low mortgage

Not unless I was homeless.
The cost of rates and maintenance or rent would make it impossible.

Keraunos · 36-40, M
Anyone can, but I would not like making the overhauls to my life that would be needed to meet the conditions.
Ian123 · 61-69, M
Can live on £1000 a month here in the U.K.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I have no house or car payment so yes but not a lot of wiggle room in the budget
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Good to hear 👍️
CheshireCatalyst · 41-45, M
Only if I sold my house and my car and my body
wetncthru · F
@CheshireCatalyst Any rentals?!
CheshireCatalyst · 41-45, M
@wetncthru you can rent the car. I'm using the body right now!
wetncthru · F
@CheshireCatalyst OK, I will take a # and stand in line.
Dan509 · 26-30, M
I have done that a few times before. I lived decently on it
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
@Dan509 I used to be able to do that. But not anymore. In the rental world, my rent went from $600.00 to $900.00. That didn't count food, phone bills, and life insurance. I was living hand to mouth and paycheck to paycheck. There was no such thing as "extras" for anything. Then management decided to not renew my lease (although I was always on time paying) because they were going to rehab the entire place and raise the rent to $1,100.00 in my basement apartment. It took me five full months to find anything I could afford. Everybody wanted double what I had in the bank besides a security deposit and that month's rent. So did the place I ended up, but they checked my rental-on-time record and my credit record. Both were clear. I have been here five months and the rent is down to $750.00. But all I pay is electricity. Oh, and phone.
TexChik · F
Nope ... I never budgeted for that ... with two kids and a nanny ? Ha. In college ? All day long
shuhak · M
No. Around here that wouldn't even pay a month's rent.
saragoodtimes · F
@Nimbus God Forbid

SW-User
The question is why would you want to?

SW-User
No, because I give a damn. @wetncthru
wetncthru · F
@SW-User A noble aim ... and for once, said without sarcasm/cynicism.

SW-User
I lead a nice lifestyle..because I got an education, @wetncthru]

SW-User
If I was forced to, I'd find a way to survive. But people are hard pressed to live on such a meager amount of money in today's world. They'd have to live with other peopled or receive public assistance, to be able to afford the basic necessities.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User That is just the word for it, 'survival'.
Yes, some people live like that for years, I did once.
Yes, some people live like that for years, I did once.

SW-User
@Nimbus I did as well, a long time ago.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User One learns from it and hopefully gains wisdom :)
goldenorchid · 46-50, F
If it's £ and in England yes.
Nimbus · M
@goldenorchid Yep, slightly better :)
goldenorchid · 46-50, F
@Nimbus £800 can be done but we'd have to be careful
Peppa · 31-35, F
I live on less
monkeysdevil007 · 46-50, M
I am mortgage free but would still struggle to live on the pound equivalent of about £800 as I spend half that just on food.
monkeysdevil007 · 46-50, M
@Nimbus Fresh fruit and vegetables are pretty expensive plus I like good cuts of meat , oh and that does include my beers and the odd bottle of wine
Nimbus · M
@monkeysdevil007 Gotta keep healthy ;)
monkeysdevil007 · 46-50, M
@Nimbus You know it
Elessar · 26-30, M
Probably not if you have a rent. Or anyway, it'd mean living paycheck by paycheck, I fear. 😶
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
It all depends - on what the utilities are and how you are fixed for groceries in any given month.
Nimbus · M
@MaryJanine Good point.
There are many factors involved.
There are many factors involved.
MaryJanine · 70-79, F
@Nimbus Tell me about it. I just finished grocery shopping and paying my electric bill and my phone bill. Waiting for my monthly disability check so I can pay the rent again. And there are always the "needs" for daily living. (You know, TP and paper towels and stuff like that there.)
BlueRain · 51-55, F
Not wear I live.
PointAfter · M
That's hard to do here. You'd need to shack up with some roommates and be very frugal about your personal spending on groceries and entertainment 🙃
Nimbus · M
@PointAfter Good point.
rjc36 · 61-69, M
It all depends on your needs. If you don't have many expenses and just need to pay for food you probably could.
smiler2012 · 61-69
nimbus what is that worth in real money good old pound sterling
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus no chance i could live off that mind you it my by manchester united a half decent player 😆
Nimbus · M
@smiler2012 £807 that's a weeks wages for you, isn't it? :)
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus ha ha ha i wish nimbus

SW-User
~£810 a month.... I could do would require some economies but I think I'd manage.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Good to hear.

SW-User
I would have to sell 2 houses, 5 cars, 4 boats first and then it would be no problem.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User 😄
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
As I don’t live in a country that uses $ why should I 🙃

SW-User
If house rent and other bills are paid then, yes.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User 👍️
PoetryNEmotion · F
If I had to, yes. I am frugal. I do splurge on some things I truly enjoy.
Nimbus · M
@PoetryNEmotion I know you do and you do a great job in terrible conditions sometimes.
We all need people like you.
Will do :)

Nimbus · M
@PoetryNEmotion You're welcome.

What's a $? 🤷♀️

SW-User
I practically do.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Congrats!
It can't be easy?
It can't be easy?

SW-User
@Nimbus Well, i don’t have to pay rent or anything like that. The only expenses i have is my car insurance and loan, my health insurance, and my phone bill so it’s not so bad.

SW-User
No, tbh. Not on current expenses.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User It's difficult.
WorldlyWoes · 36-40, M
I converted it to £, yes. Easily.
Nimbus · M
@WorldlyWoes Good to hear.

SW-User
If you live with relatives and don't eat much
Nimbus · M
@SW-User That's the way to do it :)

SW-User
Almost double that.
Nimbus · M
@SW-User 👍️
no. very no.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
Yes, I have
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I could if I had to.
Nimbus · M
@SwampFlower 👍️
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
If I didn't have to pay rent/mortgage then probably. Housing is the killer.
Nimbus · M
@CountScrofula I agree.
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
Of course.
Nimbus · M
@rottenrobi Good to hear 👍️
