Some airlines does this, is this discrimination or do you support it as the more you weigh, the more room you take up. The more fuel the plane will burn etc.
is this just common sense or is it way too unpopular.

This is wrong in my opinion. I'm not overweight so that is not my reason for opposing. .

Being overweight is for the most part unintentional. In our culture, I'm certain it can be embarrassing.

Why ostracize someone who is overweight? This is inhumane.

@RSquared lighten up Francis . I make jokes. I don’t judge .

@MalcolmY Having had that very argument on a plane where I found my "fellow passenger" had lifted the armrest that would have separated us because he was spilling over on to my seat. I asked to be moved and the stewardess was very sniffy about it. Had I stayed in the originally allocated seat I'd have spent a 4 hour flight leaning over and getting a bad back.
Now you can argue either that airlines should have much wider seats, and therefore fewer passengers all having to pay more, or that if you're taking up two seats you pay for them. However, you can't say a very obese person doesn't impact on fellow passengers.

More a matter of size than weight
There were overweight people who took 2 seats (phisically) preventing other passengers to sit in the place they should have go.
In a full plane.,this means having to stand for all the flight, and can't be accepted
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@lonelyIT That is true, you can't stand up the whole flight, imagine if it was long haul!
SophSmiles · 22-25, F
Nah, that’s just silly
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@SophSmiles Thank you!
RSquared · 61-69, M
By that logic then my underweight wife who tips the scales at barely 100# would be charged less. It all evens out.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@RSquared Another good point.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@RSquared It would seem to be economical from that stand point but it wouldn't happen.
We already know that companies are going to do things that work in their own favor.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@CestManan Yes, they would take the "extra" but you can't ever see them handing anything back.
they could put everyone on the scale and charge them by the pound. LOL
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@SisterShadow Yeah, I can see your point over that, thanks but you feel strongly about this?

@YourMomsSecretCrush You are fooling no one! You are just wise.

I think the plane would have to be completely full of severely overweight people before it would affect fuel economy.

I do think if they are over a certain weight, they are likely to take up two seats so in THAT regard, yeah charging for two seats is kind of necessary.

I do not know, I mean even for normal sized humans, plane seats are awfully cramped.

Ain't like the movies where it looks like they are in a living room or theater.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@CestManan yes, i have heard that certain airlines will ask you to voluntarily get on the scales if they think you meet that criteria and insist that you buy another ticket.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Wol62 that would have to be humiliating.

"Rotundra Lunchealot, this way please..."
Crazychick · 36-40, F
That's discrimination. It's a Tory idea if ever there was one.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@Crazychick Well done, i wish you every success.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Wol62 Thanks. :)
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@Crazychick Anytime, we had a co-worker who was 2lb UNDER the weight where you needed to buy an extra seat, you can bet everyone helped him lose weight.
CestManan · 46-50, F
BTW, this guy might need THREE seats on the plane.
He is a good friend of @empanadas

Unless they require extra seats I don’t see a valid reason why
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
What weight is considered "nominal"?
Those under that weight should then get a refund.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Tastyfrzz Onebis overweightbthen? Pne? What are these words in English?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@Crazychick ones that are difficult to type on a wee cell phone with big fingers.

@Tastyfrzz I don't use a phone to go on websites, I use a computer.

Samoa airline starts pay-by-weight pricing for international flights
Fili Sagapolutele and Nick Perry, The Associated Press
April 3, 2013

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa - A tiny Samoa airline is giving passengers a big reason to lose weight: tickets sold not by the seat, but by the kilogram.

Samoa Air planned Wednesday to start pricing its first international flights based on the weight of its passengers and their bags. Depending on the flight, each kilogram (2.2 pounds) costs 93 cents to $1.06.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
only if they need special seating arrangements. otherwise they should just have everyone stand on a scale to pay for their ticket. but definitely for hugely overweight.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Nah would cause too many problems
