Do you think 4 days is too long for a first time solo trip?

too long as in, being bored/lonely and just wanting to go home😅

I haven't been away from home solo
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Four days or four weeks. Either one could be too long or two short. As far as boredom is concerned it depends on where you go and how determined you are to enjoy it. If you choose somewhere interesting four days will be just long enough to tell you whether you should stay longer.

Four days in Oslo for instance would let you visit Vigeland's Sculpture Park, the Fram, the Viking Ship, Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Science and Technology, The Henie Onstadt Art Centre and Sculpture Part, and the National Museum. But it would be a bit of a rush.

I spend three months at a time away from home twice a year, half the time visiting family the rest travelling solo. I rarely want to go home and I'm almost never lonely.

@ninalanyon I like this formula of 3's lolz

having travelled extensively by myself I would say that it could be both too long and too short. let me explain. my first trip alone was 3 months across Mexico. I remember the emotional vertigo of completely stepping out of my comfort zone and having to get used to it. also, after days and weeks of travelling I started to really need human company so it became natural to just talk with everyone, and to this day I am still like that. now the problem with a 4 day trip is that it might not be enough to force you out of your bubble and talk with strangers and the result would then be 4 days of being alone which is a lot. so, if you do it, don't stay in your bubble, talk to people.

I'm going to the beach for 10 days alone. Looking forward to a body reset.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
Nah it would take me 3 of 4 to actually arrive after getting lost 😒
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@LilPrincess But getting lost can be fun too.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@ninalanyon oh yes but those times i have those with me never found it as funny as i did
MarineBob · 56-60, M
4 hours is too long for me
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
No I think it’s kind of perfect

Where will you go?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@iamnikki it was okay. I mean it’s California. We had a vacation home in California growing up so we spent a lot of time there and did San Diego several times. Decent beaches, lots to do
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Jenny1234 makes sense. I've only been to a beach once in my entire life. Never seen a mountain in real life. Definitely didn't have a vacation home anywhere
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@iamnikki oh boy! Seeing a beach only once? I had no idea!!
Musicman · 61-69, M
Definitely not! You are going to have so much fun. 😊😊😊 You are going to wish it was longer. 🙂🙂🙂
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F
Maybe 2 days to start out. Good luck and enjoy your liberation if you do.😊
Depends on where you are going
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
No, not if you plan for it.
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
I would say no for a woman being alone. It’s just really not safe out here especially women. That’s why enough time for someone to notice
elafina · 36-40, F
@iamnikki let your fear mentality aside.
A couple of years ago when I was trying to decide what I needed to prepare for my long trip and was posting relevant questions here, somebody said to me, do not pack your fears.
Here you go... Enjoy your trip! I can't wait for you to come back and tell us how it was...:)
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@elafina thank you
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
@iamnikki no … I was projecting my bad. No Fear. Have a great time. Enjoy yourself . But also keep your head on a swivel!
Mordechai · 31-35, M

perfect duration to relax, unwind and be refreshed enough to return
There was one time I wish I had been solo, on a day trip to San Francisco when I lived in Reno. I went with an ex gf to Pier 39 Fisherman's Wharf, they had a Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum there, and being a HUGE fan of the old paperback books since early childhood I wanted to go. My ex then proceeded to tell me that she hated that stuff, but could go if I wanted, but that she wouldn't be around when I got out and would have to find a way back to Reno on my own and that all of my things would be thrown on the lawn when I did get back. I should have left her then, it took another month and a half before I did.
elafina · 36-40, F
@NativePortlander1970 I'm sorry you missed that opportunity...:/
@elafina I was so pissed I couldn't enjoy the rest of the day trip as I should have, going inside that museum would have been like reliving my childhood. I never got the chance to go back to SF after that just to go there.
@elafina But Thank You so very much, I often wonder which stories out of the books would have been in there.
