Four days or four weeks. Either one could be too long or two short. As far as boredom is concerned it depends on where you go and how determined you are to enjoy it. If you choose somewhere interesting four days will be just long enough to tell you whether you should stay longer.
Four days in Oslo for instance would let you visit Vigeland's Sculpture Park, the Fram, the Viking Ship, Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Science and Technology, The Henie Onstadt Art Centre and Sculpture Part, and the National Museum. But it would be a bit of a rush.
I spend three months at a time away from home twice a year, half the time visiting family the rest travelling solo. I rarely want to go home and I'm almost never lonely.
