Regarding head trauma.

Many of us in medical settings assume everyone knows something about head trauma. Two years ago, a friend of mine died as a result of a head concussion. Please be reminded, if you, or someone you know complains of hurting their head please remember pain is the body's way of crying for help. DO NOT ALLOW THIS PERSON TO FALL ASLEEP. CALL 911 OR TAKE THEM TO THE E.R ASAP! This is a case of better to be safe than sorry. This is NOT the time to "Man up" and pretend to be brave. Carol was only 50, in her prime of health, she bumped into a wall and told NO ONE. Carol was found dead the following day. So sad. So easily preventable.

As a medical professional I can tell you you would never be degraded or humiliated for seeking medical attention for a head injury. It is always better safe then sorry or dead. And being monitored overnight is only an inconvenience for you. It is our job to make sure you are safe and healthy. I cannot tell you how many people I have monitored each hour for this. And, certainly, lives were saved. Be careful. Be health conscious, please.
@PoetryNEmotion Thank you for a valuable contribution to this thread hon.

This was how actress Natasha Richardson (Liam Neeson's wife) passed away. She had a fall during skiing on holiday back in 2009. Hit her head but thought nothing of it. Passed away the next day after her head started hurting. She was beautiful 😞

@DrScissorhands Yes, I remember that and it was shocking how easily she died.
@Grateful4you I'm never letting any of ours on our busy streets here on a bike. Thats a given
@DrScissorhands You're a good, responsible dad. I respect that.

I know that a person shouldn’t sleep if they get a head injury. Everyone should know that. It’s very important for the better outcome.
@DrScissorhands Thanks for further information.
@SW-User Doctor recommended during the first and second night.

I would understand that. I would prefer a whole week. @DrScissorhands

Serious head injury if not fatal, has a long-term effect on the persons health and life... it's best to be avoided.

@Grateful4you I never thought about my experience being able to help someone. I would really like to find a way to work with kids to help them not be so scared. It's so frightening when you're a kid. One thing i learned is for me a seizure is a cycle,it starts with the oh no then keeps building up through my legs then i get metal taste , if a person can break the cycle of panic It's possible to stop the seizure. Now when the oh no hits i try to stay calm instead of panic it has worked once or twice.
@kodiac Somehow, I just feel like doing some kind of instruction/teaching work would be a good fit for you. Having had so much time in management and marketing etc. I've been around folks doing a speaker/imstructor you just kind of have that vibe. Maybe doing a kid thing might work well for you. I think even just some hours might be worthwhile. If I were you I would at least give it a little energy. It's going to be quiet awhile on this side since I need a shower. Probably be back. Later bud.

@Grateful4you Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

We were really dumb about head injuries when I was playing high school football. I got my "bell rung" in two games to the point of almost losing consciousness. I went out of the games for one play and then returned to play the rest of the game with a terrible headache.
@exexec Even after many decades of providing nursing care I had no idea how dumb we were about many things. many patients deemed as in a coma "vegetative state" with neither receptive or expressive language abilities it was discovered many of these "Vegrables" were mentally alert and understanding every word exchanged at bedside.

Yep, when Josh was in hockey three of his team mates got so many concussions in one year that they could never play sports again. I pulled him out. Oh, the coaches complained but they didn't care about the kids. They just wanted to win games.
@Tastyfrzz Good grief, how awful sir. DAMN!
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I've done much research about concussions. Many times in professional sports, some athletes will have many concussions that sadly go undiagnosed, until they are simply unable to continue their career due to the effects and have to retire.
@SubstantialKick I had no idea the frequency of long-term (Often permanent) untoward physical and/or mental side effects. More reason for caution.

Sorry for your loss. I've read that the first 24 hours after a concussion are the most critical.

From bumping into a wall? Didn’t she see the wall ?
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
So you had access to her house ?@Grateful4you
@MonaReeves86 Of course not. I had no power of attorney. You sound suspicious of me. I assure you, I didn't murder my own friend who depended on me. We are kind of like family here. If I had murdered anyone, rest assured, I'm not dumb enough to brag about it on a social site. Nor would I choose a public area with camera's. How ludicrous! LMAO!

People here who know me are probably laughing. My cat Sawyer would be a more likely suspect than I am.
@MonaReeves86 I should feel insulted but really, in all of my years either on EP or here have I ever been asked such a question.. This discussion is over. Goodbye.

Omg, I’m soo sorry. Things like that can happen.

Sorry for your loss
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. 🥺
@bijouxbroussard I just remembered this after reading the post. I meant to mention this two years ago. I myself tend to be clumsy and worse yet, have had maturity- onset tonic/clonic seizures (well controlled now with meds.) so I too need to be careful.
