Is there a tragedy in your family history?

kodiac · 22-25, M
My parents died in a car crash when I was 4 years old. The tragedy is i survived .
@kodiac you surviving hurts, i know, because if you didn't you would not have gone through the hell you did. I am glad you're with us but im sorry for your pain. Xx

My sister was heading into work one winter morning and hit a patch of ice, sliding in front of an 18-wheeler. She had traumatic brain injury and severe damage to her spine. She lived, but she never recovered, and now lives in basically an assisted living facility.

Oh, and her son is autistic; he lives in another facility up the street from her.

Yes, several….my grandfather was killed in a building collapse…..my little sister had seizure and died in her sleep.

More than I can possibly say in the approximate maximum of 17,459 character limit in any reply or post.

I have such a post BTW. It's not enough by a magnitude of 100 such posts.

Same 😢 - so much woe, so little time and space to list everything

@SW-User and too much soured wine down the Rhine that caused a river to whine. 😞

Apparently,my great-great grandfather was too rich and lavish(as our hereditary roots to some kind of rulers of small provinces) that the guy used to donate acres and acres of lands to the poor people for free and spent the rest of the money he owned in gambling and women.Over years his money got shrunk and the people he helped never cared about him in his time of need except his 2 wives and children. As a result my grandfather's generation succumbed to poverty that they had to work very hard in the lands of the other people in our Village for daily wage to even eat a single meal a day. They worked very hard for many many years and bought a few acres of land and split them among the brothers. They did farming in those lands which enabled them to run their families to some extent. My dad used to say that in his family (my grandfather's family),he and his siblings hardly had 3 sets of dresses each for many years. Then grandfather's descendants(my father and his siblings) started to earn more money(some by farming and some of them graduated and joined in Government jobs)as time passed by.Now we are a well to do family in our village and very respected for our roots too(though not very rich,we can satisfy our needs without money shortage).

Yeah a few. My great grandpa returned from Egypt as an immigrant back to Greece with my grandma and no father. We never learned what happened, they married her to someone else and hidden the story...
My grandpa committed suicide after three failed attempts, he got so weakened that didn't make it in the hospital.
My other grandpa fell off an olive tree and lost his leg due to gangrene. He spent the last few years in bed mostly since his health deteriorated.

There has been a lot in my family 😔
BarbossasSpouse · 36-40, F
Plenty. The most morbid being an uncle of my gmaw literally blowing himself up with dynamite, on purpose. (Not long after the war ended)

@BarbossasSpouse Which war?

A few that are memorable. I had a great great grandfather firefighter that died in the line of duty. Several other smaller things but hard not to discount it
According to my mother i ruined her life surviving birth

Oh yes. Over the centuries there've been many deaths and failures big and small 😩😥

Hasn't everyone a story or more to tell?
if illness is considered tragedy then yes
Convivial · 26-30, F
It's the nature of family histories i think

I’m related to someone who was hung for smuggling tobacco and buried in unmarked grave at a crossroads in the 17th century.

Aside from that it’s all dandy.
Yes. It was de ades ago in the past. It changed everyone that it touched. Why do you ask? It is healthier to move forward than backward.
Have good people died in my family? Yes. Is it a tragedy to more than a few people? Probably not
I mean, a huge refugee crisis and displacement from their homes was a pretty big tragedy
