Wait.... in the USA don't International students pay over the top fees for their education?

Doesn't that help fund the universities?

Why stop their visas?
Top | New | Old
Getting foreign students helps universities by increasing the diversity of locations, beliefs, backgrounds to which one is exposed.

You can't understand, lose, avoid a bad "-ism" if you don't get to meet people of the group so identified.

They are an asset, not a liability.

@SomeMichGuy absolutely
My understanding is that the attempted block on international students is specifically to do with preventing those with supposed hostile views towards the US and its allies from being able to come to the US to study. The Trump administration made several demands of Harvard, one of which was for firm assurances around protecting Jewish students and I believe they had asked for specific information about the behaviour and conduct of international students. Harvard were unwilling to sign up to the demands and took the Trump administration to court over the initial removal of federal funding before the subsequent ban on international students which has resulted in a second lawsuit.

This is all about immigration, basically. The financial aspect of it in terms of who funds Harvard is an aside.

On the contrary I think that is a minor point. Trump has spat his dummy (pacifier) out because he can't exercise any control over such a prestigious University.
@ArtieKat That may be an element of it but it's a secondary element in my opinion. Still, it's just my opinion and who even knows except for good old Donny himself? 🤣

It's a similar setup in the UK where the hefty fees which overseas students pay to study here funds the universities. Harvard, renowned throughout the whole world - and which Chump should be proud of - is full of people considerably more intelligent than POTUS. And he HATES that.

I’m certain they do. I would imagine this administration is looking at students with scholarships, who earned their spots through hard work. That’s whose visas the MAGAs want to cancel. The rich kids whose parents bought their places are still quite welcome.

@bijouxbroussard are there many scholarships for International Students? Most here are sponsored by an organisation
@BabyLonia The scholarships are through those organizations. I attended an HBCU, and groups affiliated with the NAACP sponsored students from African countries.
That's what I thought too. And don't many students also end up working for American companies when they finish their study?
@NerdyPotato Yes. But many at better universities also work for international companies.

Universities in the United States offer scholarships to international students, although the availability and types of scholarships can vary. Many universities have their own scholarship programs specifically for international students, and some offer need-based or merit-based aid, according to BestColleges.com. Additionally, there are many external scholarship programs and foundations that also provide financial aid to international students studying in the US, according to Pearson PTE
BabyLonia · F
@pdockal you are not seeing the piint...International students bring in $50bn .... far more than is spent on them. They also help create jobs and there is the impact that their resesrch has on building America. They do not get a federal grant, they are not taking anything from home students but help universities make a college education more afgordable.

Do you not see that?
Home citizens will be worse off without international students. Universities would go bust.

It's not rocket science ... which is why Trump is now backtracking

@BabyLonia

Your missing the point & trying to shove information that i don't care about down my throat ... money from our government & colleges should be for citizens ONLY ... WTF don't you understand ??????
BabyLonia · F
@pdockal

No

International students pay in excess of $30000 in fees. This is not paid for by the government...this is paid by the student or their families.... maybe 1 or 2 will receive a scholarship from the university...but again that is not government it is the college that probably is sponsoring an exceptional student to gain in their own research.

You clearly have no understanding of how universities are funded but wanted to project your bigoted views about foreigners.

Like i said, Trump has now backtracked because he now sees the detriment to his economy, maybe you could educate yourself and read about it

It's ethnic cleansing if you are non white they are going to do whatever they can to make it harder for you. i dont understand why people don't see that Trump is trying to make America white again. This is why Roe was overturned because less white babies are being born and he's afraid of becoming a minority, so he wants to save every white baby, so much so that he's willing to pay white mothers. Thats desperation! this is why he deported the Mexicans because they were multiplying how do you think we went from the Statue of Liberty welcoming everyone to into a melting pot to having blatant racism in the Whitehouse. White women are having more children of color and are even adopting more children of color and bringing them from other countries. Think of any celebrity whose adopted. And i guarantee you their child is non white, Madonna, Sandra Bulllock, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and so on a so forth. America is not white its khaki colored.

Yes. Good dowry business in the name of education. But it has become a migration route and all the wrong ones have got in and not getting out.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Trump doesn't like independent thinkers.
No matter where they're from.

....of course, he likes the money they're prepared to pay for their education !
Even more so if it's above and beyond what U.S. students would be prepared to pay.

Harvard denied Baron Trump, so Donny is throwing a tantrum and trying to punish them 🤷‍♂

Not for most private institutions.

@Cyclist You were being given facts. Why are you afraid of them?

The up-front pricing is usually tiered in favor of residents at public schools (due to tax support), and I had thought your point was there.

But Stanford does similarly (with aid-blind admissions), and free tuition/other expenses depending upon income, and Yale, I think, went to a tuition-free undergrad program (or one like Stanford now has, but before Stanford went to that).
@Cyclist If the grad program is in STEM, funding was usually simple, and even other programs often fund grad school by using grad students as TAs, etc.

Punish the universities.

to divert our attention away from blatant abuse of power and corruption by the office of the president
