@Penny There agreement by both major parties, that we need new immigration rules. There has been no alteration since the 1980s. There was agreement on a new approach to immigration developed by members of both parties and proposed to be voted upon in the senate, it had bilateral support. POTUS then told the senate that he did not want the problem of immigration solved before he became POTUS again. The bill died. Lok around, there are crops rotting on the ground for lack of pickers, we do not have enough workers to fill the positions needed, thus we need immigrants.
We are a country of immigrants. In the early 1900s there was an opendoor policy, our grandparents came to this country without the red tape needed now, so those who said their grandparents, came here and struggled ignore the facts.
We used to be able to "import" workers for positi0ns that no US citizen would take, or was qualified for, under the H1 Visa. That was a "legal" foot in the door to the US. I paid $3-5,000 in fees to accomplish that. To show how anti-immigrants of all kinds that the present administration is, they have raised that fee to $100k!
That may b=not have completely answered your question, but maybe it is enough to have you look at the positions taken on the total issue of immigraion.

@samueltyler2 whatever is going on is terrible. its very confusing for me. cant they make it simple for peopel to come just to work like seasonally or whatever then go home for the off season, or in the case of like construction or permanent jobs why cant they just become citizens?? is it because theyd have to pay them more?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Penny Of course "they" could if they wanted to. What they are doing is dehumanizing the immigrant population, they are destroying many of the concepts this country was formed upon. They use many of the words used in Europe during the lead up to WWII. I don't know where you live or how you were education. You should do some google searches, maybe consult your local library for books to read. Do not take my word for any of this, do not take any one person's word(s). Dig deep into it.

@samueltyler2 im first generation "american". my parents came here from a different country escaping communism. thats why im scared of socialism. they say it leads to communism. but anyway, they learned the language (my parents). thats my main beef with these new people. many dont learn the language. i was at walmart the other day. almost all the workers i approached for help didnt speak english well enough to help me. either that or they were pretending. but i figure walmart would only hire people here legally so its confusing.

Lack of competitive wages and undesirable working conditions are significant contributors to the farm labor shortage, though this issue is intertwined with other factors, like immigration enforcement. For many workers, especially U.S. citizens, the physically demanding and often hazardous nature of farm work, combined with relatively low pay, makes it an unappealing option compared to other available jobs.

@Penny well, I was out in california and all I heard all the time was who's gonna pick our fruits and vegetables. I developed a response.I said, why do you wanna pay people a substandard wage and treat them like slaves? So you can have cheap fruits and vegetables... The immigrants that picket are farms are not paid by the hour. They're paid by the bushel, or by x amount of harvest. They work long hours from sun up to sundown, and because they're not paid an hourly wage, they're not really given breaks. Now they can take a break anytime. They want, but that means they'll make less money. It makes me sick to my stomach. How these damn liberals want to keep people in slavery?Just so they can have their cheaper fruits and vegetables.

@dale74 farming seems a tough business. i thought of going to learn to small scale farm. so much hassle. not only do you have to grow the food you have to sell it too. i dont think farming should be big business. not only does it increase transportation and pollution its an excuse for them to use glycophospate and stuff. i mean, i know theres condsiderations about location for certain crops but wouldn tit be better for people to source their food more locally? they should exclude farming from the minimum wage maybe. let kids pick stuff they have the strength and energy and are smaller so dont have ot bend so much. (older kids) like before or after school or whatever. a lot of food comes from different countries too. how do they manage all the picking?

@Penny You could get educated on how Trump is not out for you or any other American's best interest.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@dale74 yet instead of punishing the farm owners for unethical practices, you punish the victims of exploitation by sending them to glorified concentration camps?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@basilfawlty89 I truly hope that we can re-educate just this one person, the one person at a time! I keep waiting for the usual right wing nut cases to come here and argue with us.

@atlantic59 can you be fair and think of anything positive about trump?
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@Penny what's positive of abusing his authority, overriding the other branches of government, usurping democracy, and violating the Constitution as set out by the Founding Fathers?
The Revolutionary War was to get rid of a King, not install a new one.

@Penny Nooooo Absolutely Not!!!!! Wake up!!! He is an absolute Joke and punch line to the whole world. Unfortunately he happens to be the President of the Great Nation of America and controls a lot of power and people have to defer to his Lunacy
