what do you do when you struggle to keep your home tidy and clean

my mother and father brought me up to be clean and tidy, 'cleanliness is next to godliness' as it's said...but because i struggle with mental problems i struggle to keep my place/ living quarters tidy and clean...i find it a great effort to clean, tidy and hoover...and i've let things go a bit in my apartment...if my mum saw it she would be upset with me....she lives an hour away now but is always encouraging me on the phone to keep the kitchen clean and tidy....but at the moment it's a bit of a mess.

can anyone relate or understand what i'm saying?

Yes, 100% relate and agree. My room was a total disaster before ramadan. And i few days before ramadan I decided to tidy up my room. It became mess again but on the last 10th nights of ramadan i got everything done so i can focus with the prayers and stuff. And we got eid holiday her for a week, so before i went back to my parent’s place i clean up, put some dehumidifier, air freshener, and stuff, and i promised myself to be more organized even after Ramadan.

And like a years ago, i got sick. And my room as still a mess. My bf contacted my friend that lives near my place to come visit me. And i was so ashamed because she saw my room and she just started to tidy up for me. And took me to the doctor. And the doctor said “if in 3 days you’re not getting better, come again I’ll give you some recommendation letter to go to the psychiatric clinic.”

Like whaaat? I didn’t say anything about my mental condition but she just knew.
After that, I subscribed a gym membership. It was better.

Maybe you want to start working out too? Like first step to get things together.

Ive found that if you clean things immediately its easier and much better to get it done. As soon as I'm done eating i do the dishes, as soon as get up I'm making my bed, as soon as im done showering, brushing my teeth, etc... I'm cleaning my bathroom every morning. We have a rule in my house no one goes to sleep until everything is neat, clean, and put into its place. And no one leaves the house without it being clean that means all beds are made, breakfast dishes done etc...this way the house is always clean. We all have certain laundry days and on that day we dust while our clothes are in wash.
I can totally get what you're saying. Some days, my symptoms of my mental illnesses are so bad that they're physically screwing with me so I feel like trash. Sometimes, I'm too depressed to get out of bed for days on end. The apartment doesn't get cleaned as often as it should sometimes. Thankfully, I fill the rabbits hutches with hay, so they have plenty to eat while I'm down.

Bottom line? It's actually quite common for people with mental illnesses to let things go more than they should. Hell, it's common in mentally healthy people too. It doesn't say anything bad about them-- and once they pick themselves up and get things done? They feel much better about the clean surroundings and twice as much for overcoming the depression or sickness or whatever was in the way.

There's nothing wrong with pacing yourself.
But you will feel better to get your sense of routine back and your surroundings cleaned.

Also, maybe start trying some new hobbies you enjoy? Something you enjoy that you can get lost in. It helped me. Maybe it'll help you too.

I can relate and today is my cleaning day.
Because of how things are naturally messy around here, I've let my environment a little...
Decluttering helps too, so you only decide to keep the items that you care to care about.

I feel like I’m constantly cleaning my house. From dishes to dusting and laundry to vacuuming, I spend hours keeping it neat.
