what do you do when you struggle to keep your home tidy and clean

my mother and father brought me up to be clean and tidy, 'cleanliness is next to godliness' as it's said...but because i struggle with mental problems i struggle to keep my place/ living quarters tidy and clean...i find it a great effort to clean, tidy and hoover...and i've let things go a bit in my apartment...if my mum saw it she would be upset with me....she lives an hour away now but is always encouraging me on the phone to keep the kitchen clean and tidy....but at the moment it's a bit of a mess.

can anyone relate or understand what i'm saying?

I can totally get what you're saying. Some days, my symptoms of my mental illnesses are so bad that they're physically screwing with me so I feel like trash. Sometimes, I'm too depressed to get out of bed for days on end. The apartment doesn't get cleaned as often as it should sometimes. Thankfully, I fill the rabbits hutches with hay, so they have plenty to eat while I'm down.

Bottom line? It's actually quite common for people with mental illnesses to let things go more than they should. Hell, it's common in mentally healthy people too. It doesn't say anything bad about them-- and once they pick themselves up and get things done? They feel much better about the clean surroundings and twice as much for overcoming the depression or sickness or whatever was in the way.

There's nothing wrong with pacing yourself.
But you will feel better to get your sense of routine back and your surroundings cleaned.

Also, maybe start trying some new hobbies you enjoy? Something you enjoy that you can get lost in. It helped me. Maybe it'll help you too.
