Ridiculous things people say on bereavement

Can we have a laugh about the ridiculous things people say when you are bereaved.

When my mum died
OP. You find yourself a nice boyfriend.

Me. I wasn't having an affair with my mum

OP. You know what I mean

Me. No actually I don't. My mum knew about the men in my life

3 months after my boyfriend died
Have you found another boyfriend yet?
Myzery · 41-45, F
Reminds me of my former boss.
My sister passed, then my mom passed and he's immediately all "I'm going to find you a boyfriend so you can settle down and start a family."
Because, yeah, that's #1 on my list of concerns. 🙄

@Myzery Sorry to hear that. A double whammy losing your sister also.
Your boss had no idea how hard taking care of a family is.
What a bleep (I don't swear). LOL

I hate how they come up to you and just look.....like your appearance tells them how you feel. Good friend of mine, 2 weeks after my wife passed. Looks me up and down and says "Well, you seem to be handling it pretty good". My response was that I was doing the best I knew how.

He wasn't being mean, he wasn't being snide....he was just being a friend with no clue what to say and wanting to say something. He knew as soon as he said it how stupid it was and was smart enough to give me a hug and shut up.

@bowman81 Just because you are clean and have clean clothes on

People can be such buffoons. I find that saying anything beyond I'm sorry and I'm here for you in unnecessary
@chuck7882 Agreed. That’s all anyone can really hear during that time, anyway.

3 weeks after my guy died.... "so, you're ready to find a new boyfriend then!"
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
Unfortunately I have nothing funny to say, but I found people to be patronising or stayed away from me altogether. It was a horrendous experience and it took a break from everything to make things better. Words don't mean a thing.

Some people cannot emphasis with loss, so try and deal with in in (bad) humour.

What dumbasses
emptysoul44 · 46-50, M

@emptysoul44
Hello, just browsing and I agree with your comment.
Insensitive idiot.
One of the common remarks are "Can you still live there?"
I know a lovely guy who lived with his mother and the housing people told him that he was not to worry about anything because if anything happened they would give him a 1 bedroom flat.
As soon his mum died the flat was ready.
People kept asking if he had to leave the flat he shared with his mother and he said "I don't know. I have moved".

Makes you want to slap them doesn't it

i don't know.
WTF is wrong with this person?
Chanelcoco · 51-55, F
@SomeMichGuy
Which buffoon?
You mean the second remark. He is a nice guy but not the sharpest tool in the box.
@Chanelcoco lol I thought they were both the same person, but...sheesh!
