is it "mean" when you speak your mind

or confront someone when you've had enough?
SW-User Best Comment
I don't see it as mean at all but honest

Here’s a rule saw about when to speak up:

Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Is it kind?

You say “when you’ve had enough”
If your boundaries are pushed you have a right to reinforce them. Wether you do that by just backing away And speaking your mind is another matter.

@Stuffy
this is true. thank you

Not necessarily; you can confront someone in a kind way, speaking the truth as gently as possible. However, even if you confront someone politely, the other person may still feel hurt and accuse you of being mean...

Personally, sometimes I've found you just can't win in that sort of situation.
SW-User
@Jeremi That's not a good sign. If someone doesn't care enough about you to listen to your side (even if you aren't being polite), then sad to say, it's probably all over.

it pretty much is. there's this old saying that: some people are willig to hear you out, even if they don't agree, they'll still listen; other people are waiting for you to shut up so they can argue back. they don't really care what you have to say. yeah, pretty much a lost cause.

@Jeremi It's true. If someone's made up their mind that I am The Enemy and the bad guy, there's not much I can do except give up on them. Arguing is pointless; I won't be able to change their mind.

Word choice makes that response mean or compassionately honest. Your job if you choose to speak your mind is to be compassionate but honest with your word choice.

3 things... Intent, truthfulness and will it make things better or worse?

No one really wants the truth when they ask "does my bum look big in this?"
SW-User
No, I think it’s reasonable. You can’t tolerate someone’s shit forever
Convivial · 26-30, F
Totally depends.. Your " had enough" bar may be set extremely low
It’s only mean when you intend it to be
Jeremi · 41-45, M
@Onestarlitnight
I don't ever intend to be, it's just sometimes interpreted that way because all they are are words. they don't see the expression behind the words.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
Not at all but people usually say it is because they liked being able to stomp all over you
Jeremi · 41-45, M
@AlchemyFox
oh I could list some people

Tact is important. But speaking your mind isn't mean, it's all about the delivery.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
Depends on the circumstances, and how you do it.

I don't think so. But you can try do it in a collected matter.
