My oldest had just lost one leg in a motorcycle accident. My youngest was completing junior high. My career had just taken on an added dimension with more travel around the country. A high stress period of juggling work and family. My mother-in-law came and stayed with us for a bit to help care for the eldest, which added far more stress than assistance.

On the plus side, I got my first taste of spring training baseball -- a bucket list item -- when to give my youngest some attention since his brother had been the center of everything for a couple of months, we arranged for him to fly to Phoenix where I met him on returning from a business trip to the East Cost and we had a weekend with just the two of us.

I was in junior high school. I remember being driven to school and Van Halen jump being a big song and playing on the radio. Pretty sure that was 84. I was 10 for most of 84 but yet I remember going to junior high not sure if I’m correct. Yes, the music was great. Tears for Fears. songs from the big chair, 1985. And back to the future was 1985.

@SumKindaMunster yes I know. But jump may not been released and 84. Idk.

@SumKindaMunster just looked it up. Apparently it was released in December 1983 the song jump.
@SumKindaMunster Jump was everywhere in '84. Brings back a thousand great memories. I always tell my friends from back then that Van Halen was the soundtrack of our youth.

1984 I gave up a high paying, soul destroying government job and reserved a place at a residential group therapy resort. Hoped it would change my life but reasoned that if I couldn't even give up a 30-year heavy-smoking habit I'd be wasting my time; so I quit there & then. The therapy was great while it lasted; but back in 'the real world' the magic slowly dissipated. Oh, well .... I still don't smoke but can occasionally be found unconsciously patting my pockets looking for 'something'.

I was a teen. No I was not happy.

Still I think back on those days with rosy glasses and a strong feeling of nostalgia. I absolutely remember the time.
