do you think the bread they give at mass looked appetising?

Because it always looked thin and anemic to me.

It's giving frail and low iron levels. Me on my period. Except I'm full of more carbs and calories than that bread.

:-)

It's ceremonial, not a food-bank!

A few years ago I attended, by invitation, the ordination of a friend to the rank of Deacon. As the cathedrall was full, the Communion was given in three places, with a queue for each, but, the Dean or Bishop informed us, one was of gluten-free wafers!
@ArishMell how inclusive but you right, you right
exexec · 70-79, C
We Methodists use tastier bread for Communion, but I have had those wafers and they are not good.

Catholic here and I can confirm it’s not good.
@sarabee1995 I know Christmas and Easter have pagan origins. Christmas coinciding with ancient winter solstice festivals, and things like christmas trees, easter eggs, and bunnies being from pagan symbols that represent life, rebirth and fertility
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@HijabaDabbaDoo Yup. All planned to make it easier to convert the pagans. Let's just adopt their holidays and their symbols. 🙄
Straylight · 31-35, F
@HijabaDabbaDoo It’s not so much that they were pagan in origin as it was they moved certain holidays to fit the ones of the newly converted to make the transition into Christianity a bit easier.

I don't think you can even call it bread. It's more like a dried paste.

@JimboSaturn Salt-free Papal Pringles, Jeez-Its... Christ Chex
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
I would like to think that Jesus would have more flavor. A savory savior. A spicy saint. Something that would help you remember and maybe even crave for more jesus.

The catholic church needs to rethink their communion.

You’re spending more time at mass than I would have expected.
@Harmonium1923 I've lived many lives 😌

The bread they receive at communion? It represents the body of Christ to them….When I was a catholic I remember it tasting like paper.
@FreeSpirit1 I know what it represents lol, I went to a Catholic school. I didn't eat the bread but participated in pretty much everything else.

Needs salt 🧂
@faery bit of seasoning
When I still attended mass it was not bread. Just tiny communion wafers. The taste and consistency was not much different from cardboard.
wackidywack · 26-30
I gotta show it to you, it's a whole SNACK
wackidywack · 26-30
@HijabaDabbaDoo are you trying to scare me

@HijabaDabbaDoo Its basically religion classes to prepare for the sacraments. I grew up in the Bronx and my public school actually had a bus that took us there. That’s how many kids went. Basically it’s for Catholic raised kids who go to public schools. We were right across the street from my fav pizza shop and our teachers used to buy us all pizza if we finished what we were supposed to do and listened the whole time 🤣 It was like a boring bit and then a party.
@MellyMel22 lol, I didn't know they had specific classes for Catholic kids in public schools.
I had religious education too but it wasn't just Catholicism. Quite a few different religions. That's in every school here though. Except it's more prioritised in catholic schools of course.
MellyMel22 · F
@HijabaDabbaDoo It’s more like a program, those in Catholic school don’t need to do it b/c it’s during their school day. I believe sometimes they do nights where I am now, but I think we did Wednesday daytime in the Bronx. They let us leave just a little bit early to go there.

I always wondered how other religions did their thing. We never heard of it though there back then.

Other than the pizza parties at the end of class, we had fun dressing up for our Confirmation sacrament. I never would’ve lasted in Catholic school instead of public 🤣
