Taiping rebellion in China was pretty fucked up, guy fails his exams, has a dream that he's Jesus's brother and starts a cult which led to one of the worst civil wars in history. We're talking about millions of people dying at a time when the earth's population was nowhere as big as it is today. And in China of all places where a disruption in food production plus war means folk die like flies. 1850s - 1860s. Both sides massacred the hell out of everybody. People scare the hell out of me, ghosts, werewolves, vampires I mean they're all living in the shadows, but imagine that, some guy fails his exams, say's he's Jesus and next thing you know people are hacking each other up and wandering off their farms to go join the kingdom of heaven.
