What’s a scary experience that still haunts you?

Inquiring minds want to know. It can be as long as you want. I’m intrigued.

When I was 21 I worked with a guy that I got a bit closer too. We dated but I soon realized he had an issue with alcohol and cocaine. I was at his house when I confronted him about how his issues were starting to scare me. Not sure if he was drunk or on something but he raped me. I was too afraid to say anything because of fear of losing my job.

Soon after I found out I was pregnant and there was no way I would be able to have a child from rape, or with him. I had an abortion which I still feel weird about. But he found out and we worked at a sheet metal factory, so he started threatening me. He would pretend he was going to bash me with a hammer or cut me with metal scraps. He would leave me nasty voicemails and told other people at work I aborted his baby. It was so psycho.

When I quit my job I felt like the HR guy knew. I felt like other people knew he raped me but in those days (especially being a woman in a “man’s job”), it was suck it up or quit. They even asked me to stay but move to a different department. I was too scared.

I went to work at Home Depot just to get any job other than working with him and he would show up just to stare at me.

The crazy part was the last time I heard from him was a voicemail. He called me all day. I could always tell how drunk he was because the messages started out pleading then by the end of the day he was threatening to kill me. But the last one he sounded like a demon. I couldn’t understand his words but then I heard a lot of noise, yelling, truthfully it sounded like he was getting beat up then his phone got thrown in the road and hit by a car.

I never heard from nor saw him again. But his name and face still haunt me.

@AlchemyFox That is terrifying. I’m so happy that you stopped being contacted by that monster. I hope you’re safe and doing well.

@AlchemyFox Such a sad story, thank goodness you did something about it and washed him away from your life. You closed the door and locked it for good. That is the best thing your life needed
Montanaman · M
@AlchemyFox Thats the most hor[i]thingive ever heard.
If i could, and knew the particulars needed.
I'd hunt him, stalk him, and end him.

Senior year in high school, I had turned down a few guys and rumors started spreading. After school I'd see them all gathered and watching me. When I got my beater car so I wouldn't have to get on the bus, they hung out just far away, but always watched. I heard what they said, what they claimed to do, and what they thought of me, so when my car struggled to start once, I had a panic attack. I looked over and saw them start to walk over slowly. Fortunately, it started right after and I tore off down the road.

I knew the area, I knew what people were capable of, and I knew what was likely to happen to me. So glad I don't live in the city anymore. Now if my car has trouble, I got three people more than willing to help and recommend parts all over.

@Magnolia21 So glad you got away safely!!
My father arming himself with a tyre iron... it wasn't to fix a flat tyre.

To understand why this would be scary, you need to know that my father was physically abusive towards me from the age of 8 and he would go through this routine of hitting objects that he was going to hit me with into the palm of his other hand before he would hit me with it.

He walked the entire side of the car hitting that tyre iron into his palm. I remember telling him that I had done nothing wrong and he told me that the tyre iron wasn't for me - though not the reason why he had gone to all the effort of getting it out of the back of the car.
My Dad beating my mother in front of us. I'll never not be haunted by that

that experience from which I had been narrowly escaped from being raped , robbed and murdered by a person whom I knew and was so closed (he planned it with his two unknown associates )
taneegoan · 31-35, F
@DarkHeaven i know but sometimes we are lost in our own way even by knowing the danger ahead , i always try to feel about my own fault and try to repairing it in my life experiences not always trying to find about those people who were behind such act with me as i know i can control myself only ,not them
@taneegoan yeah. we victim blame even our own selves. we got to quit that. I didn’t cause my rape, and neither did you… even if it was almost. bad people tried or did take advantage. period.

@DarkHeaven so true

First time I got shot at way back in the early 90s.
Desert Storm
@icedsky Bush the first over Kuwait. My cousin too.
Friend was hit by a big Cadillac at 7. We were biking and cut across a busy road without looking both ways,

He was tangled in the bike frame on the asphalt, eyes closed. Was sure he was dead.
I don't remember anything beyond the lights and sirens in the distance.

He made a full recovery, but I blame myself. He looked up to me, and followed my lead.
If I crossed, he would also.

When I broke my hip in 2011. It was broken for seven months and had to be replaced.

Still dealing with the PTSD from it all so many years later. 😅
@thepreposterouspanda oh my goodness. I am so sorry. No wonder you get nervous about it. I’ve never had really bad interactions with medicines that I remember. I had a couple that made my hallucinations worse but I was really deep delusional already, so I’m not sure the degrees of, matter at that point. And one made my anorexia worse, so that was kind of a mess. But nothing like you have had. One thing you might discuss with someone… if you’re comfortable is exactly what mental conditions you are treating. Many Drs call it all depression and just treat that, but it sounds like you are dealing with anxiety and Wellbutrin is an antidepressant and doesn’t do shit for anxiety. You may need something else. Something targeting what mental illness issue you are actually dealing with. Just my thoughts. Be safe. 🖤
thepreposterouspanda · 31-35, M
@DarkHeaven Might be time for some ativan or something. I'm gonna start seeing a psychiatrist in January so hopefully they can get me on the right track. :)
@thepreposterouspanda Well I am truly hopeful that when you do, things start to come together for you. 🦋

Playing hide and seek at night in the church when we were children. This guy named Mr. Larry he was mentally challenged , he ended up following me downstairs . It was pitch black I hid under the table.

His voice sounded real different saying “ where you at?” He was moving stuff around .

After he left I ran out the other way.

It never sat right with me, I wonder if he found me in there like what would’ve happened….
Saucylover · 26-30, F
@Heavenlywarrior I’m so sorry to hear that❤️. I’m glad you made it out without being physically harmed!
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
@Saucylover thanks 🙏🏿 me too… in another reality it could’ve went different only God knows…

Honestly, my mom's abusive behavior from when I was a kid. I was terrified of her, and to this day I get super anxious when I am around someone who shows those same volatile behaviors.

False teeth used to be the worst to frighten me out of my mind. I was very young, probably kindegarten age. My mother had this friend who had those god awful fake teeth. When she took them out, I freaked because it was like a hairy spider was on me. Even though those chompers were innocent enough, I still have nightmares....
