I certainly remember their names , up 4 generations.
It’s a tradition of ours where the souls/ names from the paternal side are respected / remembered on the occasion of death anniversary.

Well, we are writing down our ancestors already since generations. My great great grandfather was called Karl. I even know the name of my first documented ancestor (16x grandfather who was born in 1460 😉).
Well, I guess that in 4 generations maybe someone still will remember my name but not the thing which is more important: What I was for a kind of person.
But well, we humans are like that... 😉

He was a POW of the Confederates, held at Libby Prison in Richmond, VA. I would call him patriot. abolitionist, and hero.

@dancingtongue Hell yeah. A man to be remembered indeed.

@Vaper The other one on my father's side immigrated to the U.S. to escape the Franco-Prussian war, had a successful career as a skilled woodworker in Chicago until burnt out by the Great Fire, then migrated to California and started a successful brewery/saloon. Once he earned enough in Chicago he sent for his bride as he had promised. I would call him loyal, pragmatic, and achiever. The two on my mother's side I don't know much about because they never left the Island of Pico, but the offspring they sent directly to California got a strong set of values from somewhere.

My dad spent alot of time on that stuff. In my mind all of the ancestors that it took to create such a rotten prick as my dad was ain't worth my time. I come from bad blood.

@SW-User Maybe its not so important from where we have come but more so with whom we leave.

El haj. He has tomb built on his grave, and crazy people who worship him by proxy.
So yeah, sometimes you do live on.

And in 120 years +/- not a single human living now will exist.

@BarbossasHusband Cool. Intrigued by the spelling as well. I only know mine by right of heritage. Born in Iceland, your last name is your fathers first + son or daughter respectively.
