How much was your last medical bill, or did you let the insurance take the hit?

Lacemaker · 41-45, F
Good old NHS!
Worth its weight in gold 🎗️
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Lacemaker The NHS certainly is being privatised. You are 100% correct.
Lacemaker · 41-45, F
@Entwistle
Slowly, slowly...
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Lacemaker Started in 2010.

About $2,000 out of pocket after going to the ER for a second bout with kidney stones. That was with insurance. Now, without insurance, my first bout of kidney stones was about $24,500 out of pocket after going to the ER that I fortunately managed to negotiate down to about $2,200.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@PatKirby so far they haven’t returned and that’s been over 20 years ago. I think he learned a few things.
PatKirby · M
@cherokeepatti

Good for him! I do have to add though, after doing lengthy research on the subject doctors discovered there has been a sudden and distinct increase in the prevalence of kidney stones in society in the last 20 years for some reason. They don't know why, yet.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@PatKirby Might be from the fructose they are putting in so many processed foods now.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
I live in a country where we don’t have medical bills.
Muldoon · 56-60, M
I had surgery and the bill was $245,000 and insurance paid all but $1500.
Muldoon · 56-60, M
@Crazywaterspring the hospital tried to add another $2000 to my out of pocket but I refused to pay it. My insurance co said don't pay on the hospital request. I never heard back from the hospital.
PatKirby · M
@Muldoon
I looked at all the paperwork over a period of days after the hospital tried to do the same to me. I paid only what I negotiated down to. These people are healthcare hoodlum$. It's a racket.
Muldoon · 56-60, M
@PatKirby the hospital makes more from private insurance so they go as far as they can on billing. Medicare or Medicare pay less, more like 30% or so.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
My partner had a stomach issue. We went to the emergency room. After waiting almost three hours we left. Less than a week later they sent a bill for $3700 without being seen by anyone except the triage nurse. I didn't pay them anything. Yes, I told my insurance company.

My partner agreed to drink some carbonated water. A few belches later she was fine.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
$0.00 for Covid shot.
I think my last proper doctor's appointment cost me about $15.
My last trip to the hospital for an operation cost me $0.00
I have medical insurance but didn't use it.
I live in Australia. No, we're not socialist. It's not socialist if the government build roads, is it? Same thing.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@thewindupbirdchronicles Surely it's government policy creating that gap?
This article shows how UK, Australia and Canada have slipped down the rankings on best health systems alongside having right-wing governments. I haven't examined their metrics in detail but it's quite obvious that it's true.
https://healthcarechannel.co/how-australian-healthcare-ranks-worldwide-2020/
@Abstraction Canada, is complicated in jurisdiction.... Health is a provincial responsibility laid out federally in what is supposed to be met. A way, in intent, for the federal government to grant equity. At onset, that is good in idea. There is a few right wing conservative provincial governments here, but federally we have a liberal government right now. But a name is a name. The Liberal party, like usual, has cut health transfers collected from taxes to provincial governments.

Which makes it somewhat contradictory when they talk about citizens (namely anti-vaxxers) not taking enough care upon health. Leaves the impression of talking down. (I am vaxxed)

Meanwhile, I live in the province with most vaccinated, also the most restrictions sitting on federal money that was given to help support and they don't spend it? Just an example of stupid politics.
@Abstraction I do appreciate some doctors who express (and I'm not saying what metric is right), but Canada needs to recognize it's system is lagging and why the US has less restrictions. It's not just ideology; more is spent there per capita on healthcare. I'm not saying we should accept death, but we should ask for a healthcare system adequate.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I don't get billed here in the UK.
The NHS takes care of me.

@MarmeeMarch Once again you are being nonsensical. Meh,that's your problem.

Zero
I have a $65 copay if I use the emergency room and a $5 copay for prescriptions. My last visit was for annual physical and blood work. Cost to me $0.
Mikeawesome1986 · 36-40, M
£0.00... NHS doesn't bill us for medial. Only if we have to get a prescription, and that's next to nothing.

I had to have a chest Xray and a scan to check on my heart. Not a penny.
I went to the emergency room in Dec and it was paid because I had already paid my out of pocket expenses for this year. Now it being January though, I start over.

I had to pay $45 for an ambulance once. That was my biggest and only payment
PatKirby · M
@Jenny1234
The ambulance ride to the hospital two miles away cost my mother $1,750 out of pocket. These people are thieves and it's a racket.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@PatKirby they should be ashamed of themselves
I didn't pay anything because I'd hit my $3000 yearly out of pocket limit a long time ago.
@thewindupbirdchronicles I have the beginning of it all pinned on my profile. I'll post an update after my pet scan next month.
@SooperSarah Thanks for sharing that. I will look, I hope your health continues to be good.
I guess if you have private insurance you have choice? But why would you pay out of pocket when you have insurance?
@thewindupbirdchronicles Depends on your plan. Some have a deductible that has to be exhausted first.
@bijouxbroussard I was curious. We have to question that here on automobile insurance. That would hurt in real life circumstances of your health.
Iwillwait · M
@bijouxbroussard That's me, I will most likely be "Out if Pocket," for most of my bills..
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Last time I saw a doctor was for a physical for employment six years ago. The company paid for it including the drug test.
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
$10 about 6 years ago
I got a pill I was allergic to and never tried to solve that issue again until like 2 weeks ago😂
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F

Physiotherapy was $76 but my Insurance paid as it’s a private service. I don’t pay to go to the doctor or hospital.
