Smile
If they are sitting nearby, maybe introduce yourself
Ask a question: what's your major, who's your favorite professor so far?
Join a campus club. If you are there at the start of the club, it's easier to make friends. It's kinda like that everywhere.

Take the time to initiate conversation even with strangers.
For me it balances it all out .
Alone by choice lonely never, I've God at my side.

People are not as forward and friendly as they have been in the past, just go about your business and people will start to come around.
Make the first approach? I’m a bit older and tbh I learned that you’re not the only one who is afraid to make the first move. Sometimes you have to take the risk of rejection.

It’s same with majority of the people out there.
Nothing to worry about
It takes time to get into friendships.

Dress up in a mascot uniform and hug people, they sound boring and in need of hugs

Relax. Its only the 2nd day. Dont be too discontented, you don't want to give off a vibe of desperation.
It's amazing how a smile can change someone's (yours or theirs) countenance.

@kittysad Sorry, I should have read your post better. When my mother was secretary at a small private two year religious college, she was also the activities coordinator and had student assistants, maybe You can volunteer for something like that, it's a great way to meet other new students :)

Sorry to hear that.
I hope it improves.
I think that the first few days it takes people time to open up.
Good luck

Don't let your worry control how you view it.
It's only the 2nd day.
Tomorrow, emphasize smiling, etc.

Some people are shy in new environments.
