How do you spend your time at night when you're not able to sleep?

Typically I let myself sink into frustration and despair knowing the next day is going to be a zombie-state miserable sort of day. Tossing and turning, checking the time and the weather (no idea why). I feel like I'm smarter than those thoughts that convince me I could somehow force myself to sleep. Maybe I should make the most of it and watch a movie or play a game or read a book rather than stressing over it.

Magnesium helps me. Sometimes sleep sounds too. I try not to use anything stimulating a hour or so before bed. Other times no matter what you do it doesnt work though.

I light a candle and read. Maybe take a bong hit and diddle. Sometimes I write or draw. I don't hate it because I love night time, it's so peaceful.

@ScreamingFox I love the night too but I'll hit that point of exhaustion where I feel like I'm dying for sleep but it just won't come. Don't always do so well at that point when it comes to the self-calming tactics.

@SpectralMourning yeah like when you have to be to work in four hours and you still don't feel tired... Then you get 45 minutes and wake up like a psycho...

At that point I just let the mania take over.

@ScreamingFox Relating on all the levels.

I usually just get up and play games on the computer until my brain gets tired enough to stop running in circles. 🤔 Been playing Hades II recently and it's so good. 😌

@thepeculiarpanda I need to do something like this....laying there with my thoughts just doesn't do me any favors.

@SpectralMourning I usually give it an hour or so. If I don't feel my brain slowing down at all, I just get back up. 😂

That's when I start thinking about things too hard. Will feel self doubt creep in, so I'll uh. Relieve tension so can fall asleep

@Bexsy ...I guess doing something like breaking out the dominos and setting up cool design chains? The overthinking gets to me too. And I'll feel this weird obligation that I have to keep trying....only makes it worse of course.
@SpectralMourning yeah, dominoes. Exactly that

I toss and turn and if I know I won't fall back asleep, I get on the phone and go to SW.
