Can god be considered moral by any recognizable standard? Including the standard that God ostensibly gave us?

Or is God moral because whatever God does is moral because he's god?
I think most people have a wrong concept of God.... morality is created by man ...

This is all Im going to say because Im very sleepy...
@Soossie

lol go to sleep!

But i agree. Morality is man-made just as god is. And yet god does not meet the standards of morality that man recognizes in every other context.
@Pikachu

I have faith in God tho.... with a different concept.... good night....

@Soossie I like this angle. as i've mentioned before, but I doubt anyone noticed, I am not against the idea of a god, I might even be a closet theist, I just don't think that if such a thing exists it its even possible for a human brain to comprehend. for this I like the advaita vedenta school of thinking . they have an expression that says "neti neti" , which means " not this, not that" and they use this expression to mean that whenever you think you understand something about god, forget it. its not even possible. not this, not that, its not what you think and could never be what you think because its beyond our ability to understand. so whatever you think it is, its not that. hindhuism is interesting because they don't associate morality with divinity, they associate it more with the physical repercussions of our actions. karma is not a judgment from higher divinities, its just cause and effect. the truth is humans create moral rules in order to live with each other then these rules become part of who we are because we are society, each one of us. but then some wise or evil men see a way to control others with this and then make morality about god and then they take control of the definition of god and then they can control everyone by saying THEIR rules are the rules of god.

The Old Testament God sure wasn't very moral... I suspect that He was just something invented by Jewish priests at the time to keep the population in line and to justify some really bad behaviour... :(
@walabby

He certainly seems to fall short. There's a lot of wrath and pride and jealousy.
walabby · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Yep. There's a lot of "do as I say, not as I do" going on there!
@walabby

lol true

when you own the dictionary store

you get to define the words....
@Pretzel

lol that is essentially the defense i see from a lot of Christians.

Biblical morality is circular, and kind of not worth listening to since its self-admitted adherents pick and choose whatever nonsense they feel like believing in then justify their fraudulence afterwards.
@KiwiDan

It certainly seems to be inconsistently applied.

Not according to this world standards which is far, far below the standards of God.
@GodSpeed63

this world standards which is far, far below the standards of God.

Did Yahweh give humanity our morality and ability to know right from wrong? Yes or no?

Did Yahweh give humanity our morality and ability to know right from wrong?

What do you think, Pikachu?
@GodSpeed63

I think i want you to show me the basic respect of answering the yes or no question i just asked you with a yes or a no.
Go ahead.

Money makes the rules Pika. God is moral bc God is God.
@AthrillatheHunt

I think most of us would agree that "might makes right" is not a very morally defensible position.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
God violates his own moral code so many times in the Bible that it's ridiculous, and Christians defend his behavior by saying he's God, and we're not to judge him. But then they say that God is love, and tell us that he loves us unconditionally. It's like, pick a lane. If you can be punished for not loving someone back, then they don't love you unconditionally. If God is willing to kill people for being born a certain way, he does not love them unconditionally.

I would have a lot more respect for Christians if they would simply admit that the God of the Bible does not love his creations unconditionally.
@LordShadowfire

Well that's the thing.
Ostensibly god gave us our moral code...and yet he falls far short of it time and time again.
