In Italian: Saturday = Sabato or Sabbath
Sunday = Domenica Lord's Day
The same in Spainish

Should religion compel an enforced day of shutdown. Yes or no?

No. Unless your country is based on Jewish culture it is not really responsible to impose customs and principles of another. That is what Christian cults (or religions) do.

The Sabbath is Saturday. Christians do not observe the Sabbath

@CookieLuvsBunny Christians do observe the Sabbath, except they believe it is a Sunday.

was the world happier, when everything was closed on a sunday? i can't remember.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
I was never a fan of Black Sabbath

The Sabbath is Saturday. The Lord's Day is Sunday.

@GovanDUNNY Just pointing out the false statement in your post. If you meant that the Sabbath was simply one day in the week when people take off.....

Colossians 2:16-17
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

No. Never. You can open your own store and close it whenever you want to but leave the independent businesses alone. No religious cult neither the state should dictate private businesses when should they open or close.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
It was kind of nice when everything was closed on Sundays, no traffic, no rush, the city was quiet. Everyone just had he day off and relaxed.
smiler2012 · 56-60
@GovanDUNNY i agree with you we should go back too the good old days like you suggest. it has sadly been corrupted by business money and greed in the areas you mention 😞
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
I do honor the Sabbath! In my play list I have War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man and quite a few more! 👍
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
We already have a partial four day week for the wealthy. Or haven't you noticed most entertainment shows have reruns on Fridays!
How about putting them to work on Sundays! So everyone else can take it off!
At my old job I could only get Tuesday's off! And once I worked three months straight. No days off!
Straighten any of that out FIRST!

We should stop with the extra "u"s in words like honor.
Also the issue with closing on the Sabbath is that humans can't even all agree when they Sabbath is. So are you going to close all the different days that people believe the Sabbath is on?
Or why should we close for your Sabbath, if you aren't going to close for someone else's Sabbath?

Was that way long time ago. People wanted things open. So they could spend the one day of the week (thst was peaceful) like the rest of the days. They got their wish. Many have to work it. I have worked shifts for years, all days/ nights of the week. I remember it being a day of rest. Not religion. That is called " progress".
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Regardless of religious element it would be kind of nice for people to have at least one day off they can count on.
I think it's up to His followers to keep the Sabbath not the whole world.

Irrespective of religion, one day a week, a day of rest, unlike the others, would be welcome. Might even prove itself beneficial to our restless society.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@LesDawsonsPiano that used to be Sunday but what sort of workplace actually fully closed down on a weekend?
Wireman · 31-35, M

Theocracy should not be forced on the majority of the general public that do not believe in it.
