Not only did birds EVOLVE from Dinosaurs, birds ARE Dinosaurs! Christians: sound off if this is NOT a problem for you! [Spirituality & Religion]

In fact, the increasingly common way to refer correctly to dinosaurs is "non-avian dinosaur" but certain sects of Christianity find this to be unacceptable for reasons they are not good at defining.

So if dinosaurs have been evolving for longer than us - because scientists and Atheists believe dinosaurs were before monkeys- how come they haven't evolved the ability to speak properly and invent stuff yet?

@Jm31xxx Evolution does not beget intelligence. Sponges have been around for longer than any animal on Earth except perhaps jellyfish, and they don't even possess a brain.
@Jm31xxx Humans haven't even evolved the ability to speak properly.

@Jm31xxx All evolution "cares about" is surviving long enough to create viable offspring that in turn create more viable offspring. Intelligence is one route to that. But it is certainly not the only route.

But I suppose here is another brain-breaker for you. Dinosaurs have not been evolving for longer than us. We have been evolving for the same amount of time because we share common ancestors.

Seems like your question has been well answered but i'll jump in anyway because it's one like answering.

Intelligence, speech, tool invention: these are not goals toward which evolution is working nor inevitabilities which it will one day achieve in every species given enough time.
Evolution is not about going from bad to good or good to best toward an ultimate goal. It's about what is adaptive to a given niche at a given time under given circumstances.
Intelligence is one adaptive trait that has served us well but it is not the only way to succeed.
Remember: in evolutionary terms, "success" means surviving long enough to reproduce and continuing the species.

So while a reptile is going to have a hard time delivering a rousing speech, a human is doing to have a hard time surviving naked in a desert.
Dinosaurs didn't, over their 200 million year reign, evolve to become human-like because the adaptations they had allowed them to survive, thrive and reproduce and that is all evolution is "concerned" with.

@Jm31xxx Just to be clear, no one says that they're always evolving, lots of signs that many animals have devolved as well.

Also as one article points out, evolution doesn't always find the best solution, as often times it just uses the first solution.

It's like when you have a problem and then of how to fix the problem, the first one is not always the best solution. But with evolution, it basically goes with the first solution to a problem every time... which is not always the best solution.

Also, birds don't have opposable thumbs... that's kinda a huge thing that helped man kind over other animals (elephants, dolphins, etc) that are also smart. And some birds like Crows are quite smart.
