From a Christian perspective: If indeed we die and stay in death like sleep until the Resurrection, what does that say about Near Death Experiences? [Spirituality & Religion]
How do NDE's where people claim to see heaven or loved ones line up with what the bible tells us about the dead being dead until the day of Judgement?
@Pikachu The last verse in the Bible, Jesus warns not to add anything to the Book as far as Revelation or he will add the plagues of the book onto us, or if we take away anything from the Bible He will take away the reward of the Book from us. so I am super careful personally not to jump to any conclusion that anything is a revelation from God outside of the Bible. I like to get my rewards 🙂 @helenS
@Pikachu Right, but I guess Joseph Smith did nevertheless, and many nowadays talk about getting "a word" from God. I personally think that God stopped talking to us other than by the Holy spirit in our hearts. So the NDE probably are hallucinations. But maybe people can come back from dying. They say they can, I'm not so sure I believe them.
The bible is a load of rubbish but life after death isnt .I experienced something , dont know how to explain it . I tell you I was dead or close to death and what I experienced was not of this world .Even when I woke up I saw things that means their is something after this earthly life .My dad passed away many many years ago but he visited me in hospital and he was a young man again looked fit and healthy something he wasnt when he passed .Their were alot of wierd things happened I cant explain including a granparent I barely knew who had also passed , I was surrounded by a blue nothingness and a nurse by my bed telling me I had to wake up my family needed me and kept asking if I was alright .I seemed to be laying under a blanket in midair just surrounded by blue nothingness , it felt like some wierd time warp .It wasnt a tunnel it was just blue all around me .Its hard to explain but a vivid memory to this day .
@Pikachu Take it from me I am right its the only thing that explains what I have seen and experienced over the years .Have you been somewhere you have never been before but everything is strangely familier I have many times .
You just answered your own question. NDEs are God's way of showing people Heaven and Hell since people have hard a time believing that God lives and there is a Heaven and a Hell.
@Pikachu The Bible has so many authors the same exact words are not always used to describe the same exact thing. You can't be so specific with soul vs spirit. Sometimes its different sometimes its the same meaning. Context is important.
Acts 7:59 And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." So for example in that verse you could substitute the word soul for spirit and there is no change in meaning.
Notice also that he asks Jesus/God to receive his spirit immediately as he is dying. No soul sleep.
@Pikachu Thats actually true as well. Sometimes it means life, soul, spirit. Its even used quite a few times the way that say an athiest would use it today in casual conversation to mean " with all my heart"
