My parents are atheists [Spirituality & Religion]

And I hate it. I have heard so many stories of religion helping people and turning lives around (like Malcolm X). I've spoken to many religious people, and I notice that they're much more friendly, smiling, and OPTIMISTIC than secular people.

I feel like I'm too old to be secular anymore. I feel like atheism is a child's fairy tale.

Strange, I tend to find atheists to be more friendly to people not like themselves. Religious people tend to have a false charm where they smile to your face but talk bad behind your back.

@Emosaur Christians disagree with eachother all the time, that is one way our faith grows.

Religious people want you to believe the same things they do or the friendship soon disappears.

Some atheists are better than others, and some religious people are the opposite.

@hippyjoe1955 So what exactly makes you a Christian as opposed to a Catholic or a Protestant?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Entwistle Is this a serious question or are you just trying to be silly?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
Atheism is a fairy tale?? Damn, I've heard it ALL now, lol
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Virgin birth, not a fairy tale. It's totally plausible that a woman could get pregnant from an invisible penis. Abrahamic religions makes so much more sense than atheism 🤭
AbbySvenz · F
Do you also believe in
Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny?
AbbySvenz · F
Either one does just about as much good as an invisible sky-daddy@CaptainKirk
CaptainKirk · 41-45, M
@AbbySvenz so you’re saying there isn’t an Easter bunny?
AbbySvenz · F
Umm... ask your mom and dad...

Many people find many ways to cope through life albeit it positive or negative. I find many people with their own spiritual path and beliefs to be very happy and collected. This also goes for atheists in a sense.

What I believe ruins either or is organization via the masses.

I once was a Christian and one of the reasons I left the church was church itself. Everybody is different and you can get a verse from the Bible and ask 20 different people what they think it means and mast of the answers will be different from one another.

Same goes for atheists. The self righteous ones are much like a fundamentalist evangelical or baptist. Where they don’t really know the history or science behind it but will agree to the person in the crowd that speaks the loudest and consider them the authority figure and will just repeat what they said but most likely in a different word due to lack of memorization or to fill their own narrative.

This is why you should explore these things by yourself or a loved one and not a massive congregation because you’re not exploring what’s being gay taught but just repeating what you are told.
Reverend · M
@TakingBackMidgard a myth to self worshipers maybe.
TakingBackMidgard · 31-35, M
@Carazaa Christianity is a myth to those who don’t follow it and or believe it just like I’m sure you would find the Roman and Greek pantheon to be myths.
TakingBackMidgard · 31-35, M
@Reverend self worshippers?

Eh, I only met one atheist that was a dick, but I've met considerably more religious people who were far worse.
Religion won't make you happy though if you aren't already a happy person. Faith changes very few people.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
What’s the gist of the faery tale?
Carazaa · F
@newjaninev2 purely curious! Do you have any relative who is Christian?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Carazaa I wouldn’t know.. it’s of no interest to me, and not something I would ever ask about. It’s statistically unlikely now that christians have become a minority group here in New Zealand.

Of course, since I’m related to every living thing on the planet then there must be a few christians in there somewhere.
Carazaa · F
@newjaninev2 I hope so because God says he blesses families for a thousand generations if we love Him.
plungesponge · 41-45, M
Fairy tales often help people feel better
Wordlover · F
@plungesponge hmm I was being sarcastic!
plungesponge · 41-45, M
@Wordlover oh I figured that out. What was unclear was the purpose of the sarcasm. Are you agreeing that fairy tales often make people feel better? Or are you trying to draw a line of difference between fairy tales and religion? It's not very clear.
Wordlover · F
@plungesponge religious books and fairy tales same thing.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
I guess having something to believe in fulfills something essential for people whereas things become relative when you don't. If everythnig is relative then what is true. Even though you can criticise for not asking that, they aren't questions they have to deal with.

I think even if you don't believe in a deity its good to embody an ideal or have a sense of something grander than ones self. You can criticise either conclusion as they both lack evidence so if you wanna explore that you should.
Carazaa · F
Sounds like you are maturing. Most of us realize we can't do it without God. There is no way I would have come as far as I have without God! He helps me! But if you have atheist parents it will be hard because there is also Satan that will divide your family and come at you like a roaring lion if you trust in God. But God is stronger than Satan and God will help you!
If you trust in Jesus then you become a part of the "family of God" which is better than any other family!

Jesus came that we can have life in all it's fullness(John 10v10) and as a Christian I have found that to be true! You can experience God's love and purpose in your life , as a friend of mine says it's the greatest life on the planet!

In the United States you have the freedom to be religious, or be an atheist or any other view, because we have a Constitution and Bill of Rights that protects Freedom of Religion.

Amendment 1 of the Bill of Rights
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Separation of Church and State protects your freedom of religion.

Well, do you seek truth even if it will come with struggle?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I agree. Non Christians have no idea what they are lacking. Sadly they can never know without taking the step to find out.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Emosaur Oink Grunt SQUEAL!!

Nope that sweetheart is not what we do! If you love God with all your heart soul and mind God will show signs for you to see that he is with you all the time. He says he will go before us! He goes before me and smooths the way. Read my post on prayer please!
