My parents are atheists [Spirituality & Religion]

And I hate it. I have heard so many stories of religion helping people and turning lives around (like Malcolm X). I've spoken to many religious people, and I notice that they're much more friendly, smiling, and OPTIMISTIC than secular people.

I feel like I'm too old to be secular anymore. I feel like atheism is a child's fairy tale.

Strange, I tend to find atheists to be more friendly to people not like themselves. Religious people tend to have a false charm where they smile to your face but talk bad behind your back.

@ViciDraco You should look up problems of religious homeless shelters too, they're very cruel people, not everyone but the people who run those shelters specifically.

@SatanBurger Your name implies 'satan'. Are you a satanist?
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@SatanBurger I know Christians who run homeless shelters and they are amazing people
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@TheWildEcho Depending on your viewpoint you may not find the problems with religious shelters wrong because you're religious. I'm sure many are good people but doesn't change the fact that religious shelters have problems 🤷‍♀️

@DR8855 It's the title of a book.

@SatanBurger and do secular shelters not have problems?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@TheWildEcho Secular shelters have never forced people to attend prayer or dress a certain way in order to get food and shelter. The problem with attending prayer is that not all homeless people appreciate being made to read the bible and sit through hour long prayer sessions and two it gets in the way of finding jobs when two sometimes three times per day is required. There was a good news article about either New York or California not being able to arrest homeless people if they refuse shelter but sleep on the streets instead (because many of them simply don't want to be forced to pray.)

Then you have the incidents of gay people getting kicked out for being gay in religious based charities.

Secular ones do have problems but their problems is lack of funding and people rather than any of the above.

Secular does not equal atheism so it wouldn't be an "atheist" shelter just because it's secular:

The only safe place for an abused Orthodox Jewish woman is a secular homeless shelter.

@SatanBurger well the Christian run shelters I know about have no prayer or services, the people are accepted the way they are and cared for, what's your problem with that? Or can you just not accept that Christian's care about people?
Carazaa · F
@TheWildEcho Yes, Amen!
Carazaa · F
@Emosaur God makes the rules and he came to rescue us from hell where we deserve to be because we aren't as nice as we'd like to believe!
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@TheWildEcho Stop virtue signaling, your anecdotal evidence doesn't erase the problems that religious shelters have.
Or can you just not accept that Christian's care about people?
Sweetheart, secular shelters does not mean atheism so obviously that's not the problem.
Carazaa · F
@SatanBurger But why not be happy about the good people do to help others? I pride God for any good someone does regardless!

@Emosaur Why? You prove it!
@Carazaa Do you accept that people are capable of doing good, even if they're not Christians?

@LeopoldBloom ofcourse people can do good and God has used even animals to do good!
Carazaa · F
@Emosaur I'm not trying to prove anything please stop!

@Carazaa By definition, articles of faith cannot be proven or disproven, otherwise, they wouldn't be faith. No one has "faith" that two plus two equals four because that's easily demonstrable.
Carazaa · F
@LeopoldBloom So is faith ! Read all the miracles God did for me under how God answer prayers !
Carazaa · F
@Emosaur likewise!! I'm not interested in proving anything! If you're interested in knowing God then read the Bible!

@Carazaa
But why not be happy about the good people do to help others?
Because I was replying specifically to ViciDraco. Obviously I am happy about good people helping others but that doesn't have anything to do with the original subject.

Is there any other red herrings you or WildEcho would like to dream up or are we done here?
