What would you say is the difference between judgement and observation?

thewindupbirdchronicles · 46-50, M Best Comment
We all use observation to find our judgments, and we all use judgment to feel how we feel about something, it becomes about how you accept and give yourself in understanding. It's probably the worst word in the English language for how it holds so many different connotations that really has a profound difference in effect, yet unique in that's it apt in both actions. Observation is just witness and impartial.

Judgment applies an opinion.
Ferric67 · M
An observation is the sky is blue
My judgement would be it's a sunny day
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Ferric67 You can observe a sunny day.

@MrBrownstone what I should have said was that I would expect good weather. Judgement is tied in with expectations, along with assumptions and prejudices

Id say observation if you're smart comes before any judgement is made to give you a better understanding and to reaffirm the eventual judgement you pass.
@Primnproper that is smart.
Judgements keep us from making mistakes.
@thinkingoutloud If I judge someone to be a user or abuser, then I avoid them and don't get used or abused.
If I am nonjudgmental and give a user or abuser access to me, just to say I am not judgmental, then I get used and abused.
@NoThanksLeon what if your judgement is wrong?
@thinkingoutloud I'm still unabused.

Observation is passive, judgement is aggressive.
@Richard65 Even if judgement is not expressed outward?
Richard65 · M
@thinkingoutloud yes, both words have a variety of meanings, but in general I'd view people's initial idea as an observation being a benign version of judgement. The word judgement carries a negative connotation in the mind. Even if kept to oneself, I think a judgement is still an aggressive act as you're likely aligning it with a moral principle. Not always, but usually. It's just my opinion. I accept others.

When it's an observation I stay silent
But When it's a judgement I talk a lot
So silly 😐🤦‍♀️

observation leads to judgement. But observation must be non-judgemental. One has to observe the full course and not dictate the course mi way by their own judgement. So an unbiased observation unviels judgments which are like steps in a ladder. Without Judgments one cannot progress or escalate in life.
@in10RjFox I like this.

I think observation is seeing, hearing and or reading something or someone. An act, that consciously or un consciously leads to an assumption, which almost always leads to a judgement. Not necessarily a negative judgement, but some type of opinion/judgement.

Observation (gathering info, some analyzing of it maybe) is the initial state of both. Like everyone observes something. But judgment is drawing a final conclusion...🤔🤔
@InHeaven This makes more sense to me. Thank you!

Judgement is fighting with yourself .
Observation is letting go of thoughts without fighting
@riseofthemachine I like this too!
justlooking2023 · 56-60, M
Observation is just viewing and judgement is building an opinion based on what's viewed?
Umile · 41-45, F
Biases.

When you analyze it without emotion, just for observations sake.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Judgement stems from a series of observations
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
A mouth, and using it. 😄
Dirtyboyy67 · 56-60, M
A persons own values
DDonde · 31-35, M
Judgement is assigning value, whereas observation is just watching
@DDonde Can we ever remain that impartial with observations? No judgements creep up silently?
Judgement comes a bit closer to condemnation, although it’s still not the same. To judge is not necessarily to condemn. Observation is relatively neutral.
