Why do adults feel the need to be dishonest?

It’s a matter of integrity and responsibility.

The more you open up, the more you take risks. You will get hurt. As painful as that is , it is the way to move forward. An act of selfless love.

But who can say they have never lied?

Usually because you're protecting yourself, or you want something you don't think you can get without lying.

In short, it's to maximise perceived benefits and minimise perceived costs.
They like making their lives easier even if its at the expense of others or themselves. Shit catches up to you eventually unless you're completely void of remorse.

Generally, for the purposes of avoiding a reality or consequences that they don’t want to face.

Because they still feel weak
