Why do adults feel the need to be dishonest?

What purpose does it serve to lie? Why are some adults completely unable to take accountability for their decisions and choices and say them?

I don't understand the purpose of lying.

Usually because you're protecting yourself, or you want something you don't think you can get without lying.

@CountScrofula But being deceptive is worse when you get what you want because you have gotten consent through deception. That's taking advantage of someone.

@FoxyGoddess Oh yeah I'm not defending lying and have little patience for it. But that's why people do.

@CountScrofula I didn't think you were. Just one of those things that the lying person doesn't seem to understand that they are putting people in positions of non-consent for their actions.
