Yes it's very true. I never returned to my hometown. Not due to the politics. It's because the people there, especially in my neighborhood were rude, impolite and completely disrespectful. Even the kids I grew up around were obnoxious, mean, and inconsiderate to others.

they do, my cousin was born in the same town but he doesn't want to return ever due to the crowd, the town is mostly right wing to an extreme degree and even when he wouldn't be the person they are against he doesn't feel comfortable.
Not usually....

Yes. That's one of the major reasons for moving somewhere else.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
Um that's historically one of the BIGGEST reasons why people move lol.
I left the southern US for that reason. I hated being surrounded by churches and Republicans.

@jshm2 What if all other factors are convenient??
Sure, living around people you don’t like can be very uncomfortable.

@OlderSometimesWiser but when everything else is just fine ,isn’t it some rash decision?
@Spacesbetweenus Everything can’t be just fine when you’re surrounded by people you don’t like.
For example, I’m Jewish. If I live in an area where there’s a lot of anti-semitism, I’m getting the heck out of there. Same if there are very vocal Trump supporters. I find the set of values necessary to support a morally bankrupt malignant narcissist to be abhorrent.
There has to be a sense of ease and comfort about where you live and the people who surround you as you go about your everyday life.

Some do. People that don't have bonds there.

I once had a colleague who told people loudly and often that she was leaving town because it was “too white”.
Suffice to say nothing went in her leaving collection. And her leaving party was a meal for just one.
