Being confident at interviews helps, especially if you can bullshit and lie on your CV.


I found being at the right place at the right time worked best. Also having the right experience.

@peterlee I'd say that timing is the most important factor, even in the most meritocratic workplaces.

@sarahcupcake there's some truth to that as well. I was talking about the role being able to help citizens, but the people fulfilling that role come with different issues indeed.

@NerdyPotato Yes, I'm sorry I didnt mean to distract you. Politicians of course love to "help" people. The Politicians themselves benefit from this by way of good publicity and the people being helped also benefit. But there are a couple of other factors here, firstly the people normally being helped in these cases are few, because individual policitians don't have time to help everyone. Also the people being helped are normally people who have been let down by political systems. I would say that if the politicians did their job properly in the first place, people would need this "special" help.

We hear so often from politicians that they recognise this failure or that failure and they undertake to put things right. But no one ever takes any responsibility for having created the failure in the first place.

@SW-User About time too. I used to yarn with sailors who came into town. I remember them saying they had to use GPS and couldn't use old maps to navigate as they were inaccurate.
