Do you turn on the lights with your curtains open at night?

I'd feel creeped out that someone was watching me like in the movies. I see this sometimes when I'm out at night. Seeing folk sitting at the table eating at night with all the lights on. Seeing folk on their exercise bike by the window. I never do this.

Do you do this?

In Amsterdam, no one seems to care about open windows. I would walk by homes along the sidewalks next to the canals looking through the windows. They don't seem to care about being seen by passersby a couple of feet on the other side of the glass pane. I was taken aback when I saw a woman in her underwear, panty and bra, all dolled up, sitting on a chair, smoking a cigarette. The next window was the same scene: another woman, voluptuous and alluring looking out into the street at me. What's wrong with these people? Or are we Americans inhibited and not progressive like them folks in Europe?

@sree251 Hmm ok. Well. We people don't technically need a partner. We won't die if we're in solitude. I'm sure you feel great on your own.

It's more like you have several of your needs through one person. But that's not all. It's also about my need to get to give all my love to someone. And that someone share the values I have, we are sharing life and all life has to offer, together.

I'm also an extrovert so me being by myself would just mean I need company in some form. And I'm not interested in casual hook ups or flirts. I'm what the modern world calls Demisexual. If you don't know what that is, it's when someone's attraction is based on serious romantic feelings.

I also love to be someone's one and only. There's a special vulnerability and trust in that.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Queendragonfly Demisexual. Never heard of the word before. I just checked it out. Thanks for educating me. It's good that you are demisexual and don't sleep around indiscriminately.
exexec · 70-79, C
Not at home. We have done it in hotels in other cities.
Repete · 70-79, M
I live on the third floor so unless I was standing at the window like opening or closing it nobody’s going to see a thing. My window shades / curtains are always open
My parents would have the drapes open in front, with just a sheer curtain. I thought it was like living in a fishbowl. I'd close them if I was alone, and chilling in the living room. They always made the comment akin to "what are you doing that you don't want anyone to see?"

My house, the front drapes get closed at night. I had them opened into dusk once, and my daughter came over and told me she can see the TV clearly. I don't want people to know what I'm watching, even if it is usually a baseball game.
No, and I've never understood it. It's very creepy indeed.

Everyone seems to do this. It's like living in a glass house but no one cares.

@SethGreene531 come on in and find what you like at a 4 finger one thumb discount!
@Mellowgirl Exactly. It's a billboard to thieves.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I've always tried avoiding it but I'm not super self-conscious about being seen occasionally. All depends on if I'm naked, what I do etc. It's not hard to figure out what can people see from the outside and regulate that as needed. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is how I can see someone's kitchen in the reflection of our china cabinet and wonder if they can see me back if they are looking this direction and if they can have a view on my computer screen. That's honestly the only place from which I could be possibly unknowingly watched, or well, much worse, what's on my screen...So that's where I do pull down blinds.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
Nope at dusk, close the curtains. I would feel a bit creeped if I didn't as well lol.
Piper · 61-69, F
Every now and then, when I need to go in the front room for something. Otherwise; no.

The question reminds of a movie I really like, though. The whole plot of The Rear Window, was around people not closing their curtains at night. 🙂
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Piper A great movie!
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I don't even have curtains.
BobbyMoeven · 100+, M
That seems smart on your part ...

I myself , am completely oblivious to lights and windows .. But then again , I am a guy , an older guy , so I'm built to be oblivious at this period in my life .

Soon i will be wearing checkered shorts , and I bright orange extra large tee ... And flip flops.

I do, but I live on the tenth floor of the building, so no one outside will be looking. Someone in another building might see something, but nothing more than me sitting on the couch or cooking.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User 10th floor sounds nice. I applied for 3rd floor at my apartment. Glad I didn't get it cause I hate the stairs
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
My bedroom window is quite a distance from the light. So it goes on then I shut the curtains...
But I don't like the idea of people looking in on me.
southbeachguy · 46-50, M
Like we enjoy looking outside, we have nice windows and have a pretty yard. Unless you have some great eye sight and our staring its nothing exciting.
Mikla · 61-69, F
I do. I've a huge picture window behind currently, drapes open. It doesn't bother me at all. If it's my time, then I guess it's my time! :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
No I don’t, it does sound creepy.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I usually close the curtains, but I don't really worry about someone seeing me through the window (with obvious exceptions of course.)
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Nah my windows stay covered. Tried window tint but that didn't work at night with the lights on
calicuz · 56-60, M
Never, I'd feel like someone was watching me all the time.

calicuz · 56-60, M
@deadgerbil

Exactly!!! 🤣
I havent closed the curtains in years. I dont have people walking past though
specman · 51-55, MVIP
Sometimes. The only difference is when you’re watching tv people can see you still but you can see them easier too.
Heck some of my windows are tinted and my bathroom has a big window above my bathtub. It has crappy spray frosting on it. It’s not that good. The problem with that is it lines up with my neighbor’s window they have a screened window so I can’t see if their trying to look through the thin layer of crappy frosting.
WanderingThrough · 31-35, F
I keep my curtains closed.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Always have the blinds drawn.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I live on the top floor so I don't feel especially exposed. Only when I'm topless in the kitchen when I wake up. Or when we have no plants in the window because we've killed them. 😂
southbeachguy · 46-50, M
I had a beautiful younger nudist neighbor in my last condo rental. Many neighbors left blinds open and lights on often as did I. I feel people are so uptight.
Lilymoon · F
Nooo I close my curtains soon as it gets dark. I've been out in the evening and have seen people watching TV in their living room. 🤣
Never understood that. lol
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Lilymoon right, I don't like that either. Reminds me of the scary movies
Morrigan · F
Yes, i am not overly bothered, where I live no one is really going to see. When I lived with my ex husband he paraded around in his underwear without a care in the world.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Morrigan Paraded around where? Down the street or in the house.
Morrigan · F
@sree251 in the house that is what is being spoken about
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Morrigan You said ex-husband. What happened to him?
GLaDOS · 100+
I can often see them from nearby CCTV footage
kentex35 · 100+, M
Me too. For the same reason. If I invite you in then I'm ok with whatever but but at night with lights drivers me nuts. That's when the peepers come out. I think. Of course I wouldn't know... For sure I mean
Atlotto · M
Yes, and proud of it.

jk...I do not.
