Is anyone truly happy?

I’m starting to wonder if anyone is truly happy. I don’t know any truly happy person. I know a lot of people that pretend but when we have one on ones and soul sessions they admit they are not happy. Just makes me wonder what’s the point of living. What did I sign up for? What’s the purpose of this all?
My opinion:

Happiness is a moment, an hour, a day.

Anyone who seeks it as a state of being is bound to be disappointed.

Further, happiness requires the recognition of the individual. We need to know it when we see it.

If we go through life thinking, "All i need now to be happy is ......whatever....." we will pass it by and discontent will define our life.

Happiness needs the joyful acceptance of circumstances, and that requires us to stop believing we 'deserve better."

Maybe si, maybe no ... but it blocks happiness.

Since the dawn of time, however "happy" we are to be safe and warm and fed, in good company, somewhere monsters still wait. We cannot go out and dance in celebration in the sun without risking the attention of monsters.

We can only accept happiness where we are, when we are, as we are. It's a temporary gift.

My opinion.

@Mamapolo2016 I'm a wordy one for the most part. I call it word vomit.🤭

Yes, you're right once again about balance. I should have expanded on that reply as well. I choose living moment to moment and feeling what I need to feel even if it's uncomfortable. Life's much better that way, imo.
@Mamapolo2016 Very well said!

Happiness comes and goes for the average person because it's just another feeling like sadness or anger. It's not a permanent state of mind like some try to cram down people's throats....
@MoonlightLullaby That's true.

@littlepuppywantanewlife So glad you understand 🌷
@MoonlightLullaby you are welcome 😁
I believe so but not everyone is happy 100% of the time. That it just life. We're human. We have feelings and people become ill or die. There are hardships and not everyone will agree or be nice all of the time. That is just the way it is.

Peace of mind trumps happiness. Happiness is meaningless without the truth, which often involves necessary pain and obstacles.

A society obsessed with cell phones and immediate gratification are destroying civilization.

Sweetie, I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself....

Define happiness for me?

I truly believe that we find happiness in the small things...and those small things add up to bigger things.

What small things? A compliment from a colleague, waking up next to my fella, hearing Carrie (Underwood) on the radio, a nice meal, someone smiling when they see me. My fella making me a cuppa, having time to do some Pole Dancing, waking up to it not raining.....oh, the list goes on and on and on.

The purpose is to give and receive - love and support - to and from others...

😘
I truly believe it's a chosen perspective
Some people are, but not everyone’s definition of happiness is the same. Some consider contentment a more obtainable goal.

I'm reasonably content. There's some things I want but not much I need. There's things I wish were different. There's things I wish I had learned earlier. There's things I wouldn't change even if I could. There's a few "what if.." questions I occasionally find myself asking. Tomorrow is a new day and anything could change.
@robb65 I can relate. I am content but not happy. I have happy moments but I’m starting to believe it’s naive to think anyone is happy but more so content because as humans we seems to always want more

@NattybyNeter Seven years ago more or less I was extremely stressed out with work and finances and other stuff. I was also depressed and and at that point hadn't realized how depressed I actually was. Some of my problems I found solutions to over the next year or two, some went away on their own, and I guess I got a little better at dealing with stress. Somethings improved, but I also picked up a new problem or two to worry about. I still have bad days but not as often as I did back then.
Thank you for sharing @robb65

Overall, life kinda sucks. but there are moments in between that kind of make it worth it.

I see happiness as a side effect of significant achievements or meaningful commitments. It's realised incidentally and momentarily, and increasingly on behalf of significant others. It's not a goal in itself. Contentment and comfort are the goals of any farm animal.
@UpForItNow farm animals 😌

I'll be happy when I'm dead.

Happiest I was in months was when I thought I was dying.

@NattybyNeter The are innocent. They were just born in a bad world full of devils.
I can’t speak with such surety because I don’t know that but if you do that’s cool too. I hope you find some peace. My perception of the world is not so dreadful @GeistInTheMachine

@NattybyNeter That's one of my issues with some elements of eastern philosophy. Moral relativism.

I literally hate people and want humanity to die out, but even I can say little ones are innocent.

Yes. Try for a part of each day, and you might make it.

I subscribe to optimistic nihilism. There is no point to any of it, so we can assign any point to it that we like. And therein lies the secret. Happiness tends to be the result of something positive. Make your life about bringing positivity into the world and success in that should help improve both your happiness and the happiness of others.

However, happiness is always temporary. Left alone or behind simple contentment. From there it always has a chance to slide into stagnation.

I think a lot of the problems these days are that it is a struggle for many just to reach what society considers basic standards of living. Happiness is hard to get if needs are not met. However, driving away the misery of poverty and acquiring happiness through wealth are not the same things. Yet our society is hyperfocused on wealth as an indicator of success. People chase that success believing it will bring them happiness, but instead they find more of a hollow victory.
I love your comment. It’s very realistic and practical. I also share the same sentiments because what makes me unhappy now is my basic needs are not met. I’m working on it though. And I’m also lonely. @ViciDraco
