I miss this website more than any other social site. I met many people. I wrote stuff I would have never posted anywhere else. IMO just the best. Wish it never shut down. Oh well, It is what it is!
@RodneyTrotter1 I am still in touch with 3 from EP through other messaging apps. One lives in my own country and we meet up at times (just as friends). SW has a lot of short-termers, they come and go quickly, probably because they don;t get what they want - meaningful connections or hookups.
@woodswalker Perhaps it was 'of its time' and the likes of Tik Tok have ruined proper social interaction online. I'm waiting for Facebook to be hoisted by its own petard, the amount of spam and unwanted posts we have to scroll past to find anything of interest is ridiculous.
@RodneyTrotter1 I can’t even watch TikTok anymore. All it is is ad after ad after ad. I can’t get anything good on my account. My husband finds great stuff, but not me. And also everything is so fake from AI.
It wasn't a better site - just had a group of people that complimented each other - (I'm agreeing the atmosphere was better) - although there were a couple of dry periods. And towards the end it was on life-support.
I do remember how playful it could be - and how pre-covid there was a period of time where we would post a pic with a mask on.
Wonder if we had the same rash of catfish - probably - but it's so obvious now.
I blame COVID and the contentious American politics for driving people away - or at least making them silent.
I found EP in 2013. Long story. I had plenty of time on my hands at the time and had questions. Again, long story.
My opinion? It was edgy. It was in the Internet “bad part of town” or “Facebook’s dirty little sister”. And had lots of traffic. The odds were you could find a niche of like minded folks.
In April, it will have been gone for ten years. I suspect people romanticize its memory, because while it existed (I was there from late 2009 until it closed) posters had plenty of complaints.
Ahhh yes indeed! I was on EP for 4ish years before it went RIP. Hard to believe it's been almost a full decade. A different time and place, which we can (sadly) never return to.
What I did was saved my data from there. Once in a while I would take time to read old messages or works from there. Really a good time (even if there’s few hiccups).
There was nothing in the website for it was a platform based on which SW was created. The problem is with people as I see the new generation does not know the value of this and does not know how to use the platform.
The advantage EP had was that it attracted more matured people. But SW attracts more rookies and immatured ..
But matured ones too are playing hard and intolerant causing further Mayhem.
But what SW is not doing is setting stricter rules for newcomers. If they do it, this platform too would be as good as EP.
