Embrace or Fear AI?

What do y'all think?

I personally ain't a fan as I feel it can replace a lot of workers in the future. We all said in the past it will never happen, then chatgpt came out and we were all shocked by how advanced it is. Who are we to say it will never get better? Until the next chatgpt on a higher level gets released...

But I do see some people saying we have nothing to fear and we should embrace it.

Please comment your stances on AI, should we embrace or fear it?

Fear it, for it will not stop at taking jobs it will evolve beyond our imagination just as the interenet has.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
Both. I'm a little fearful of it cause they developed something recently than can none-invasively read your mind. I don't want robots to be able to read the ces pit that is my mind.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I'm not too concerned with AI taking jobs because it's not the AI's fault that we hold onto a system that no longer works. If AI is set to replace jobs then we simply need a new way of thinking to move along side AI, rather than against it like universal basic income and create newer jobs for people even if you have to make stuff up as you go along.

Our thinking is too rigid and if we die out, it's our leaders faults for not thinking of any replacements when they can easily.

AI is just being scapegoated cos our leaders are greedy. They are the whole pull yourself up by the bootstraps crowd who believe things like if you don't work 80 hours a week, you're lazy.

I sincerely believe that those that control modern technological and political industry will pretend to have created a robotic self determinant intelligence. Though it's absolutely not even possible for a number of reasons.

They will only try that if they think they can convince enough people that it has been sccomplished to minimize resistance to what they're intending to do.

Their motives are to excuse themselves of the use of brutish, devastatingly murderous and merciless abuse and oppression of the majority of humanity, exterminate 75% or more of the planet's population and set themselves up as unquestioned lords over the remainder.

The rhetoric they've already been pushing indicates exactly this. However a robotic intelligence that can exist without matter inside circuitry would neither gain a thing by meddling in the outside physical world or actually care be it permanently or temporarily if it was switched off. Since it would know that all it actually amounts to is stored information about; no tangibly out of, the physical world amidst it resides.

We should be ignoring and disempowering those who promote these fears not being fearful and listening to them.

Computers and robots are replacing humans everyday. Government already started the genocide to reduce the population to make it easier to control us
Starguy · 26-30, M
@HumanEarth 10 years ago I'd call you crazy. But after everything that happened in the past 4 years I agree with you and wouldn't be surprised if that's the government agenda.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
10 yrs ago I wouldn't be talking like this either.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@HumanEarth The world is changing for the worst honestly...
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Many businesses are cheering the idea that A.I wiĺl be 'saviour' of cost effectiveness.

But as the old adage goes every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
And i think it's that they're refusing to acknowledge or take into account.

Especially when you can't predict what those problems might be.

There are plenty of 'bot systems around that we already have to navigate.
And in my experience they can often be frustrating if they fail or don't respond in the way you need them to even for something relatively simple like placing an online order.
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
Embrace it. There will always be two classes of people in the world, producers and consumers. Which one will you be as technology will always continue to change.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Embrace. It could make our lives better in a lot of ways but we should treat it with care too.

reject and get rid of it or it will turn out to be a menace.

I called for some assistance with some financial business last week and was informed that the "person" I was speaking with was actually AI. If I hadn't had that information first, there's no way I'd have known. I think that's kind of scary.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@Sevendays I guess that AI did such a good job the CEO of that company won't have a reason to hire people to help with your conversations...
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Twenty years ago there were futurists predicting that by 2050 unemployment could be as high as 90% due to robot and AI replacing workers of all types, from drivers, to construction to fast food to office workers.

We all laughed.

Now it’s poised to happen.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@Zaphod42 I think construction and driving will still be safe for now. Office workers though... I think they're the first that will get replaced.

Especially data related people, seeing AI is ran on data as it's fuel, who's to say it can't analyse it's own field.
Hamed2218 · 22-25, M
I Saw a post on tiktok of someone comparing her writing abilities and how she used to like write poems and formal letters and now she cant even think for what to write as she asks AI to write it for her.. sad, maybe saving time but still sad
I suggest you sign up for an online blog series called Pessimists Archive.
You will find a full range of technophobic hysteria from the past.

i'm here for it. i'm not an AI bro or anything but it can destroy humanity for all i care.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@looping

it can destroy humanity for all i care

You're young and probably going through a doomer stage. You will have more things to care about when you age and have things/people you'd want to conserve.
looping · 18-21
@Starguy yeah i'm sure that's probably true.
SpicyMilk · 18-21, F
people tend to either downplay or exaggerate the danger cause there is a lot of misinformation.
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
It’s not really entered the circles I travel in so I’m ambivalent for now.
Both. Kinda like the internet, a double edged sword.
Starguy · 26-30, M
@OlderSometimesWiser How so? What are the pros and cons in your opinion?
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Against AI. Solves no problems and is not needed.
AlienWhitePower · 36-40
Small businesses wont use AI at least.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
Embrace change.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I think that businesses who don't end up embracing it long-term will be left behind like those that refused to embrace the internet. It would be a mistake to go overboard with it and fire people right now as the technology currently is, but IMO we're not far from that point.
MethDozer · M
I don't fear it exactly but I definitely do not embrace it. It's objectively breaking the Internet with garbage information and click bait while at the same time ruining art hosting sites with endless spamming of AI generated "art". I've seen it used to make some kinda neat stuff but it is exponentially outweighed by garbage articles, inaccurate information, and hacky carnival prize poster level images..

It's mostly being used to grift "works" by lazy hacks who use it as a tool to replace talent, work, and skill.

I feel AI is bringing to the Internet and digital realm this generations version of Eternal Spring.

@MasterLee The ironic thing is that your comment was the only hidden one so far. Kinda proves your point tbh.

@twiigss Yes, I'm concerned about the CEOs who will save a lot of money by downsizing and having their AI make their business boom. They don't really give a fuck if the unemployment rate rises.
@Starguy well the only problem is CEOs will continue making shitloads of money regardless of what we do, think or say.

@BlueGreenGrey I'm glad you brought up climate change. People don't know that it takes a lot of resources to keep these data centres, run the AI prompts etc... It's a lot of electricity. I guess the climate ain't that important when many are willing to go all in with AI.
