texas and oklahoma in the sec

how do you all think texas and oklahoma will do in the sec?
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Good question. I personally think the SEC could use another 2 or 4 teams, with at least 2 of those other teams also coming from the Big 12.

Though they aren't admitting it yet, A&M and Missouri are the big winners and Georgia and Florida the big losers if Alabama and/or Auburn become SEC-East. Adding another Florida team to the SEC would take the sting away.

My opinions are as a big LSU fan, and I'm not yet feeling comfortable about a SEC-W composed of mostly old Big-8 teams.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander I think that’s why so many like to pull an RV or small camper with them when they go to games.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@cherokeepatti

Yep. Some fans will follow their college teams to the end of the earth. SEC division teams are pretty closely clustered, so it's like a easy day's drive or shorter from one to another. There's also big tailgate communities that have developed around the stadiums, with high profile performers and politicians making their rounds. Some family members at an A&M tailgate snatched a visit from Ted Cruz and managed a photo snapshot with him.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander they put electrical hookups in one parking lot near the stadium and duck pond for those to rent out on home games. And they are making one big parking lot at county fairgrounds into an RV park like that.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I don’t know but the head coach of Oklahoma State football, Mike Gundy, is having a conniption fit because the University of Oklahoma is leaving for the SEC. I guess he has a love-hate thing with the University of Oklahoma. He was getting remodel work done on his home a few years ago and the contractor working on his home was wearing an OU t-shirt and Gundy’s wife called Gundy in a shit-fit saying that the contractor disrespected her because he wore an OU t-shirt to go to work in. The man explained that he got up early while his wife was still sleeping and pulled the first thing he grabbed out of the closet & put it on to wear but that wasn’t good enough for Gundy and he fired his as the construction contractor. And now he’s having a fit because OU is leaving the Big 12, I guess he’ll have to take his crap out on another university now.

@cherokeepatti

I have to imagine that OSU and Baylor are begging to get into the SEC now. Time for another T-Bone to show up with a checkbook :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander haha t-bone
Heartlander · 80-89, M
are we talking about secession or some sports dooflickey?
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@Mamapolo2016 pipe dreams! They’ll never give up the largesse that the Federal gov’t doles out…
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Mamapolo2016 in football.
@cherokeepatti Then I amend my reply to 🤷‍♀️
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Should the government step forward and cancel all high school and college sports this fall
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
@MarineBob it may happen again
CantExplain · 61-69, M
As someone who grew up w/ the old Big Eight, I still mourn the passing of the great NB-OU matchups 😢

But on the positive side, KSU might a contender for the (leftover) conference 😆
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@eli1601 Yep. The Big 8 was far more balanced in Basketball. Like the OU-KU final 2 in .. ??? ... 1988? also MU was always in the mix.

Breaking KU and MU apart was hard to take in Kansas City.

:) Blame it all on Colorado and Nebraska
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@Heartlander The Danny Manning game. I think OU was favored if I remember right.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@eli1601 Yep ... the night of that game our church had a grounds committee meeting that was supposed to end exactly 30 minutes before the game started. Unfortunately, the chairwoman who held the meeting was clueless about everyone's anxiety to get out of there so they could rush home or to their favorite sports bar.

The poor chairwoman was rambling on about the fertilizing schedule as the second hand on the clock went one second beyond when that meeting was supposed to have ended, and everyone suddenly jumped up and ran for the door, as if the fire alarm had gone off. The poor woman tried to rush to finish her last sentence, but by the time she reached the period she was the only one left in the room.
gdon39 · 41-45, M
Texas is a conference killer. I hope they aren’t approved.
gdon39 · 41-45, M
@TexChik they will be receiving a giant bump in revenue moving to the SEC. it’s going change up quite a bit of who plays who in the conference. When Missouri and Texas A&M were accepted it was a huge revenue boost.
TexChik · F
@gdon39 Texas and OU were given carte blanc by the Big 12, and the revenue difference by joining the SEC is a no brainer for those schools
gdon39 · 41-45, M
@TexChik it would be nice if they had solid academic programs but Alas they won’t be bringing any scholars along. Poor big 12 is now down to 6 schools just like how it was a hundred and 20 years ago.
TexChik · F
A&M is squealing because they believe it will harm their recruiting in the state. Most blue chip Texas boys like Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Alabama.
UT and Oklahoma are going to be in the SEC, the money is just too good for both sides. The big 10 is going to combine with conference America supposedly. There will be 3 super conferences where the lions share of media money goes to the SEC. The smaller programs with be given some of that NCAA money to keep college football alive in smaller schools.
TexChik · F
Their recruiting should improve, now in state kids dont have to deal with out of state tuition to go to an SEC school
LonelyMan · M
Oklahoma will be a top 3 team in the conference, Longhorns around 500.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LonelyMan I live here and don’t keep up with the university sports. I just avoid driving as much as possible on game days unless I get out of town to go shopping elsewhere and come back before the game gets out.
New Mexico might get rich from oil.
gdon39 · 41-45, M
Texas are conference killers. Look at their conference records.

Neither Texas or Oklahoma are strong academic schools.

If they leave the big 12 will be 6 teams. Totally shitty move
DCarey · 46-50, M
@gdon39 Since when did the SEC care about academics?
gdon39 · 41-45, M
@DCarey since Missouri arrived. Texas A&M too
exexec · 61-69, C
Assuming there will be a realignment with UT and OU in the west with A&M and LSU, they will have a tough time going undefeated, but should contend for the championship. That assumes Bama and Auburn get moved to the east, ruining UGa's party.
likesnatural · 70-79, M
In bb and fb, the best teams will just beat each other up. The competition isn't the reason, it is all about money. The rich get richer! Texas is the richest college in the U.S. already.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@likesnatural We attended a UT graduation ceremony for a family member about a dozen years ago. That particular ceremony marked the largest college graduation class in the US (until that point of time) ever. It's a BIG school!

On the flip side, no one routinely "puts their money where their mouth is" better than A&M alumni, except maybe the fans and family from a dozen other SEC schools :)
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Not as well as in the Big 12. On the plus side, Texas will go back to playing A&M. On the minus, will Oklahoma have to end their series with Oklahoma State?
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@eli1601 OU-OSU was a fun matchup too

@Angel966

:) LSU family and fans are still complaining about the rude and unwelcoming way they were treated at UT in 2019.
Jackson984 · 36-40, M
I think OU will do ok but TEXAS not so much. Do i see either winning the SEC that all depends on how they set up the division. UT hasn't been the same since they ran Mack Brown out.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
That's one reason tuition is so high.
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@Crazywaterspring maybe now that college athletes can make money, maybe they’ll donate funds back to the school to defray the rising tuition costs? NOT!
1490wayb · 56-60, M
@CantExplain some universitys have surpassed a BILLION dollars in financial receiving from alumni
CantExplain · 61-69, M
@1490wayb yes, that’s quite true. And those endowments are not even taxed 😡
1490wayb · 56-60, M
will south carolina and vanderbilt stay??
should fl. state return??
DCarey · 46-50, M
Texas will do poorly. OU might occasionally contend.
