As someone who grew up w/ the old Big Eight, I still mourn the passing of the great NB-OU matchups 😢

But on the positive side, KSU might a contender for the (leftover) conference 😆

@CantExplain I still think NB-OU on Thanksgiving Day in 71 was one of the best games ever.

@eli1601 was that w/ Jimmy Rogers?

@CantExplain Johnny Rogers

@eli1601 that’s right. Thanks for the correction

@CantExplain Yep ... but also remember when they called it the Big 2 - Little 6 conference.

@Heartlander The Big Ten was the same way back then. Ohio State, Michigan, then the rest.

@eli1601 Yep. The Big 8 was far more balanced in Basketball. Like the OU-KU final 2 in .. ??? ... 1988? also MU was always in the mix.

Breaking KU and MU apart was hard to take in Kansas City.

:) Blame it all on Colorado and Nebraska

@Heartlander The Danny Manning game. I think OU was favored if I remember right.

@eli1601 Yep ... the night of that game our church had a grounds committee meeting that was supposed to end exactly 30 minutes before the game started. Unfortunately, the chairwoman who held the meeting was clueless about everyone's anxiety to get out of there so they could rush home or to their favorite sports bar.

The poor chairwoman was rambling on about the fertilizing schedule as the second hand on the clock went one second beyond when that meeting was supposed to have ended, and everyone suddenly jumped up and ran for the door, as if the fire alarm had gone off. The poor woman tried to rush to finish her last sentence, but by the time she reached the period she was the only one left in the room.
